Some reasons I want to see the switch is changing up the formation to press higher and exploit their weakness in the back. They like to keep possession and push up their fullbacks so I think this formation would keep them more honest or at least take advantage when they do push forward. Swansea exploited our back line numerous times with prolonged possession and good movement and if we're totally honest with ourselves, we shouldve lost 2 or 3-0, and I think Van Gaal has plenty to take from that match.

As to why I would start Gerrard, when he came on Monday he immediately gave us a calmness and anchor to hold possession and control the game. At home, that's what we need against United. Not to sit back and try to hit them on the counter. Keep the ball away from them and pair our energetic midfielders with Gerrard to give him options passing the ball, but also to win it back and control the game instead of giving Herrera, Carrick, Blind, Rooney or whoever too much time to pick their passes and pick us apart.

I said it was unpopular and I know it sounds batshit crazy, but that's at least my thinking for this match. Not every one going forward

I hope the rumors are true, that Roy is considering giving Hendo, Raheem, Studge and Lallana a break from international duty this go 'round... It would be nice to keep them rested and uninjured during that time... huge stretch run coming up!

I hear you, I just don't think we need to go so far away from what had been working so well. Rodgers proved against Swansea that there is plenty of adjustment he can make in the new formation to combat tactics.

I think gerrard as a Dm against Rooney and mata is asking for a heap of trouble. Especially for 60 or 90. For 30 like against Swansea (when we switched to more of a midfield diamond) it worked well.

I disagree about Swansea score too - they had two really good chances snuffed out by migs in the first half. I expect migs to stop at least half of those. That puts us 1-0 down at worst. We then controlled most of the second half and were very unlucky to not out two past them. Sterling out one over the bar that should be an easy goal for a guy that could be with 100m on the transfer market(pellegrinis value). If Allen were two inches taller he would have gotten something on a ball that would be an easy goal. And we had another chance that should have been easy that I can't think of. A tie would have been a fair result. But good teams high on confidence grind out wins.

For Man U - I want the flexibility of our regular formation plus being able to switch into a more 3-4-3 diamond when needed and to be able to bring on one sub and switch into a 3-4-1-2 for more offense. I definitely agree that we need to pressure and press them. But you don't want gerrard covering all that space that opens up in front of the cbs when we pressure. Just my opinion - and I think it's worth working the 4-3-3 back into rotation now that studge is healthy. I just don't think this massive game is the time to do it.

Holy sh..... I would be ecstatic. They could all use a break. Even if half of them get it, I would be very happy.

As long as we press the shite out of United and play with extreme fire in our bellies, we should win.

Not too concerned with the formation and players, just the energy level.

Play the way we did against City, minus the defensive lapse, and we should win.

They're ripe for the taking, they don't have the quality or mentality that they have had in the past.

Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool)
Adam Lallana (Liverpool)
Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)
Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)

vs.

Phil Jones (Manchester United)
Luke Shaw (Manchester United)
Chris Smalling (Manchester United)
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
Michael Carrick (Manchester United)

vs.

Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur)
Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur)
Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

vs.

Theo Walcott (Arsenal)
Danny Welbeck (Arsenal)
Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal)

vs.

Leighton Baines (Everton)
Phil Jagielka (Everton)
Ross Barkley (Everton)

So, not quite. Liverpool had one less player called up than United, and only one more than Tottenham, Arsenal, and Everton.
We should all be at Hodgson then, right?

Interesting. Maybe they'll all learn to play together one day. Hodgy has a tough job. He always has to factor in club affiliation when drawing up his Starting XI

Like the years wasted away trying to pair Gerro and Lampard.

While Carrick, Scholes and others never got their shot.

You're right, Liverpool's players are the only ones who get injured on international duty. All teams go through it, man. Carrick, Shaw, and Jones have all suffered injury on England duty this year. There's always conflict between club and national team managers over this very issue.

Not true. But, even then, you'd still be deluded.

True. They gotta lock him up at some point. Even if it's only for a few games.

Besides Roy loves nothing more than to trash a young winger's career by riding him into the ground and save his own owl face.

Yep. Nigeria was pressing for him to play for them, and it was rumored that Hodgsdon was going to call up Ibe to put a stop to that
