Lambert can be played as a lone striker, Borini can't.
I'm not going to argue about it. I wouldn't mind seeing Balo-Borini up top, but I just don't think Borini is a good player

He was the only good player on a shitastic sunderland team last year.

I absolutely would play Moreno over Enrique at LB...
I get that he lost the two top goal scorers, but it was also him that decided to build around an injury prone striker... and going with youth/projects over proven players. The buck stops with him. It's year three and he's spent plenty of money to build a squad sans Suarez.
In the end, if he's given until the end of the season, I'm not going to really complain given whats available before summer anyway. I hope he rights the ship, gets back on track and is around for many more years... it's just at this point, I have my reservations.. he can start by beating Man U on Sunday!

Look..I'm not a Rodgers apologist. I think the pitchforks are silly, but I have been extremely critical of him this season. I am fundamentally against sacking managers halfway through a season, especially ones who finished 2nd place the year before.
I just can't get the Tottenham match out of my head.
It was a dream. Rodgers' squad at its full potential winning 3-0 at the Lane.
Manquillo-Sakho-Lovren-Moreno get a clean sheet.
Balotelli-Sturridge combine well together. Mario misses a couple chances but looks very good overall.
Can and Markovic come off the bench and look good.
Since then nothing has gone right. Sturridge gets injured again, forcing a lone striker system where Gerrard has to play as a defensive midfielder. Sakho picks up a knock, missing over a month, forcing Skrtel and Lovren to pair, and then has a spat with Rodgers. Balotelli then gets hurt on international duty, forcing Lambert to play a ton of minutes in a short span of time. Not to mention Henderson, Coutinho, Allen, Markovic, Can, Flanagan and Kolo all missing various amount of game time for one thing or another.
I want Rodgers to be given the rest of the season. I want to see our team at its best before I begin to criticize him for having it at its worst. We've picked up 7 from our last 9. We have some big matches coming up where he has the chance to either turn the tide or go straight south, and a transfer window after that. I want him to right the ship.

The biggest thing that worries me is that we know everyone's not gonna be healthy forever (looking at you Daniel) so it's pretty disheartening seeing all of the depth that we severely needed just be not good enough.
I hope it's more of young guys adapting to the league and everyone still adjusting to how everyone plays and the system, and Rodgers himself can figure how to best utilize everyone. But we could really use a solid stretch of a full strength line up to work on figuring things out and get some confidence.

Rodgers deserves the rest of the season plain and simple. Last season he built our team around two players, and he has lost both of them so far this season. Those two players happened to be the top two goal scorers in the league last season. He deserves a break for losing those goals alone.
Look, I get everyone is upset, but that was only a bad lineup in hindsight. All we needed was a 1-0 win. Going into the match we needed to PREVENT goals more than we needed to score goals. What have you seen so far from this squad to suggest he could put out an "attacking" lineup, hold Basel scoreless, and score multiple goals? Nothing.
What is this people complaining about Borini? Why does he deserve to start, or even play? Because he tries hard in training? Give me a fricking break. He has been shite 90% of the time he has been in a game for us. He is not a goal threat. He runs around a lot and that's it.
To me, we'll know by the end of February - that is the end of the season. I won't care if he wins 3 games in the last 4 weeks to help his position slightly. We'll either make a push or we won't. No push = no job retention. Thats just my opinion.
No one said he had to put an attacking line-up in. But no Cou or Lallana? You are essentially saying, we'll take our chances holding you scoreless and since we can't score, it still won't work out.
I never said Borini deserves to play. But Lambert CAN'T play 90 twice a week for a few weeks in a row and we saw the consequences of that. Putting Borini in spells Lambert. There is no other choice right now.
ETA - I realize there are more than 4 fixtures after February but my point is that last minute movement from 9th to 7th should not make us feel that suddenly we are on the right path.

With the January window just around the corner, I think we should discuss the (realistic) possibilities of who we should look at and/or get.
Strikers? Midfielders? Defenders? January is such an awkward window in that most world class players aren't available. I see us maybe picking up 1 or 2 strikers and possibly a DM. Or I also see us getting no one.
I'm not sure what to think anymore.

no worries, because we wouldnt be pulling any even if they were...
I think GK, DM, CB, ST... we prob wont get all, in fact I think CB is the least likely.. DM is the position where I think there is a lot of talent to be had w/o breaking the bank.. For some reason, I see us bargain shopping for a GK... Neto
Striker... I just dont know who??
Posted on 12/11/14 at 4:40 pm to TFTC
I've heard Begovic
If we get a GK I would rather us legitimately get a promising player. Not a stop gap that will only service us for 3-4 years, which I thought Mignolet was. If we can't find a promising keeper, I would be okay with Cech.
We desperately need a DM. Lovren isn't world class, but he's also not nearly as bad as he's been this season. He was solid with Southampton and Croatia in the WC. He looked much better with Wanyama in front breaking things up... as anyone would.
I would rate our needs as:
1a) striker
1b) DM
2) GK

Lacazette is the only realistic and affordable option.

To be honest, he looked much better with even Lucas in front. Imagine a more mobile DM.

I def think a DM would help cover up the deficiencies of our backline... thats why I dont think we'll get one in Jan. IMO when both are healthy, I'd give Kolo and Sakho a run of games..
I'd love Cech for a couple of years
Not sure who a striker would be.. cant see us spending big and by that I mean 20+... We cant get a kid, because we need someone that can contribute right away... Doumbia from CSKA is someone I like, but isnt ACON coming up??
All that being said, I am going to prepare myself for another Jan. like last... zip, nada, zilch...

Well we were linked with Berahino, who will be over priced, Bony who will be overpriced and Jovetic, who is more injury prone that Sturridge. If LFC just meet ONE of the needs, I'd be okay.
Or recall Origi...

We've had some decent Jan signings in the past. I think BR has to do something in Jan though. I have no idea what though.

I hope we wait until Jan 31st to do business again... thats always fun..
