I watched that documentary on the firms, and the dude mentioned that the ,"Raves" stopped English hooliganism almost completely, that the youth found other means to let their frustrations with life out.

yup the Brits love ecstasy. It tends to be the older guys who are still trouble makers now trying to relive the glory days.

Was Liverpool the primary reason or lets say the last straw that got English teams banned from Europe? Yes

I'll agree with this, and say we may have had another one or two big ears if not... are own worst enemies

Well, Chelsea weren't really in European comps for the most part...

yep, they day the prove it... well, I'll be shocked..

He has apologized for all his other transgressions and rightly so... but he says he sleeps with a clear conscience on this one and Ibelieve him..

I agree he gives people many reasons to dislike him on the pitch (off, he's by all accounts a model citizen) and I don't blame them..

If I were you I'd choose a team that into the future will nearly always compete in the Champions League (the #1 most prestigious club football trophy if you don't know what it is yet) and for league titles. That basically gives you the choice between Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Unless you're willing to go outside England and support AC Milan or Barca or something but sounds to me like you're most interested in the EPL which is the most accessible if you're in the US.

It might be a bit "bandwagon" but tbh you will enjoy football a lot more supporting a team that competes in the UCL regularly and is competitive. Remember it's not like here where we have a draft. The top teams are going to stay on top for the most part.

Probably the second reason my son and I started following Chelsea (Drogba being #1). They were on TV all of the time and often twice a week. My 6 year old knew the entire roster by heart in a matter of months.

There's definitely seems to be less than in the past, particularly around the glamour clubs and at least when they play in England.

Orwellian surveillance even in city streets around the grounds and drastically increased ticket pricing may have more to do with it than raves though?

The press also seems to not report on it as happily as they did in the past.

Ha nah not really, it's actually the only time I've ever supported Suarez. Just giving the OP a hard time.

That'd be the Liam Whelan Bridge. Liam Whelan died in the Munich Air Disaster.

Looks like Chelsea might be the only one of the "big 4" to avoid dropping out of the CL.

That artwork was probably done by one of the ticketless hooligans who helped create Hillsborough.

The strangest part is that you're trying to make comic relief about it.

To each his own I guess....

Good defense =/= hideous, boring

ETA: OP, try to make it to a SKC game this year if you can. I love SKC more than I do any European teams (Chelsea is my favorite European team) even though the level of play is a little worse. Also, if someone calls you a bandwagon fan just ignore em because like SCH said earlier, basically every single American fan is a bandwagon fan of a European team. Nothing wrong with it.

Very true. But good defense only address the back line. What's the excuse for the midfield and the attack?
