I do think the defender turned his body slightly towards Messi after getting beat. I think it was a foul, not even close to a second yellow.

He does, it typically isn't called a foul, this ref saw it different. As a player, you can't barrel into people and expect to get calls

As a (former) CB that liked to play very tough, I completely agree with that sentiment, actually.
the only reason why spain/barca dominated for so long is b/c of that mentality
i remember in one UCL final Rooney was getting foul calls b/c all Man U could do was play long ball and he was stronger than pique and puyol (i think he was still around). then he'd get a foul b/c the barca defenders were weak
Man U couldn't do anything

This ref ruined this game..I hope he gives out another 4 red cards and gets castrated afterwards

He got wrong footed and was beat

Dirty by Mascherano there after the whistle.

Only reason to continue watching this will be to watch the fights.

Who's this ref think he is? Joey Crawford?

yeah the defender go this legs mixed up, and i get that in soccer that can be a foul, but messi didn't juke him or any
He juked him plenty. The defender didn't just stand his ground. He moved into messis direct path. Messi would have beaten him easily and it was a very legit scoring chance he stopped.

I'm not convinced this game is "ruined". Chile doesn't seem to be bunkering. Sure, the odds are stacked against them, but it's still entertaining and chippy so far.
Also, this ref needs to get control of these players surrounding him. 3 Chileans sprinted at him on the Messi dive.

I don't think it was a dive or a foul. Looked like Messi was legitimately trying to stay on his feet from what I saw
