Clint Dempsey doesn't even get a foul call there.

The contact on a superstar is generally going to draw a foul, but yeah Im not sure thats even a foul.

I, for one, thought it was a yellow. Watching live, I said yellow.
it looked worse than it was b/c of messi selling it and/or not having the strength to hold his ground

Agreed, a foul maybe, but definitely not a yellow especially when the player already has one

Another huge flaw to soccer that Americans have a hard time with, so silky a team has to play a man down because of that bullshite.

You didn't see a foul? I thought it was clearly a foul. Borderline yellow as well.

Do these refs get held accountable for some of their retarded calls especially a game of this caliber? That was awful

It was a foul, not a yellow. But whether he had a yellow or not should NEVER matter when the referee makes his decision. I hate this mentality. Apply the rules to each situation.

was he supposed to Ole and let messi run by?

I said yellow at full speed, but slo-mo made it look a little harsh. In fairness, ref doesn't get slo-mo

I don't think borderline yellow, he simply just got beat and turned his body

again, soccer's biggest problem is punishing strength and rewarding weakness

He got wrong footed and was beat. I disagree that Messi simply ran into him.

quote:Nope. Player stood his ground, didn't move into Messi's path. Messi just ran right at him and did nothing to go around him. No foul.

As a (former) CB that liked to play very tough, I completely agree with that sentiment, actually.

did messi change his direction in any way?
yeah the defender go this legs mixed up, and i get that in soccer that can be a foul, but messi didn't juke him or anything
i just don't get why the defender, even if not fully balanced, doesn't have a right to the space he's established

Anyone catch what the guy said all I heard was Chile and getting in trouble with local police?
Posted on 6/26/16 at 7:42 pm to pvilleguru
I agree with this, I wouldn't fault the ref for calling a foul, but a yellow? No way
