Better foreign players boost the standard of the league. If an American player is good enough he’ll rise to the top.

If you don't see academy players on the field, then it'll be pretty fricking hard to convince young players to join your academy/team. Thus relying more and more on foreign players while domestic players either quit or look elsewhere for opportunities. The current standard of the league isn't really an issue. It's fine where it is for how young it is. Only had 10 teams 15 years ago, and 20 teams 6 years ago. Yet it has only continued to get better.
The league would love to get more of these 16-18 year olds to sign with their club instead of bypassing MLS and going straight to Europe. Just loading up on foreign players and isn't going to do that.

MLS is stuck in a shite position
Players are not going to stay if the standard of the league is shite when they can go abroad
Only way to raise the standard is let more foreign talent in the league bc the academy system isn’t providing the players of same quality on a large scale
Also doesn’t help the league is entirely too big. There are only so many quality footballers to go around. Rapid expansion just dilutes the talent pool.

The standard keeps getting raised, and it's about to raise even more.

You're already seeing more players sign with the league instead of of holding out.

I disagree with pretty much all of your last post but no reason to keep going back and forth.......just agree to disagree.

Not really
Just bc LAFC and Atlanta play a good standard doesn’t mean the rest of the league doesn’t look like league one

The best players are maybe hanging around a year or two after playing first team football
The really good ones just completely bypass it

It is still better than 5+ years ago and it's not really debatable. Academies are producing better talent, the introduction of TAM increased the strength of the middle of the roster league-wide, and the upcoming U22 rule is going to do it again.

Ok? There are still more of them now than ever before, and at least the teams are getting paid for them.

More of the better ones are still starting to sign with MLS. Even if it's just for a little bit.

Maybe it's because OCSC, really the only MLS games I watch, have improved dramatically, but I agree with you. It seems that a lot of teams have improved on the middle and up, while the low end may have regressed.
As far as the foreign player cap, isn't that standard in a lot of leagues? Thought the FA has a rule for non-UK players for example?

Not sure how it is now with Brexit but it used to be if you qualify for a Work Permit there are no limit of foreign players (In England). Some countries are wide open (Germany, Belgium, Holland) and some have non EU restrictions.

the upcoming U22 rule is going to do it again.
New details on the MLS U-22 initiative, per source:
-To be eligible, player cannot turn 23 in the first season of their contract
-Once tagged under U-22 initiative, player can stay under the designation until they turn 25
-Homegrowns and draftees also eligible for the tag
Some background on U-22 initiative:
-Teams can sign up to 3 players under it
-Unlimited acquisition costs for those players
-Salary capped at/around max budget charge
-Players hit budget at reduced charge, $150k or $200k from what I've gathered

I’m ok with MLS becoming a springboard/selling league to Europe.

It isn’t
I guess we have different definitions of what constitutes a selling league then. More MLS guys are going to Europe and succeeding than ever before.

Which is good
I said that it isn’t a problem, it’s a good thing

I'd argue that the Timbers Army is more politically active and radical than any current fan brigade in Western Europe (UK, Spain, Germany) or North America. If they had the same activities but were conservative instead of liberal they'd have already been classified as a "hate group" by SPLC.
You are genuinely dumb as shite.

I know this isn’t a serious question bc it’s a troll but I’ll bite
You talked about Germany and the UK so I’ll give you two layup answers
Everything St Pauli and the Green Brigade from Celtic
No one takes MLS fan groups seriously, bc one they are not ultras.
Ultras deal with organized crime and fricking beat the shite out of other clubs supporters
Ultras light training grounds on fire like in Marseille
No one is afraid of getting beat up by MLS supporters groups
