You put way too much stock in those franchise fees, when they really aren't that much. They are essentially paying each existing team $7m for a smaller piece of the pie in the future.

LMAOO MLS reports them as revenue

They are helping keep the league afloat

quote:

In 2018, MLS clubs made just short of $800 million in total revenue. In 2019, the league made half of that in expansion fees alone.

$7m per team isn't helping to keep anyone afloat when it means they earn a smaller percentage in the future.

No shite. More teams are being added and the league expects profits to continue to rise. You have to pay them for the share of the profits you are buying into.

Sounds like a ponzi scheme

Hard to make profit when the league operates in the red

The current TV rights run through the end of 2022 (started in 2015). So they should get a much better deal than they currently have.

Major networks are not jumping to pay MLS big money

The local network deals are good for each team to make up income but don’t help the game on a national scale

They are still going to get quite a bit more than their current contract.

Still won’t be much compared to other American Leagues or other soccer leagues around the world

NBC pays more for EPL shown in the morning than the total MLS deal lol
