Well it makes sense bc the regional tv model isn’t how major soccer leagues operate and it’s not a good way to grow the game
But like we were saying it’s a good way for teams to supplement some revenue
Almost every team in the league operates in the red. Hard to convince owners not to do their own local exclusive tv rights when they know the national demand and money isn’t there.

Other leagues still getting paid big bucks on TV money even with the pandemic
Aren’t the big 6 European leagues set to lose something like 8-9 billion during this?
LINK
Sure teams aren’t hurting like the MLS (which is a no shite Sherlock)
Everyone’s losing money because of this

But that’s not how you do it in the United States (with the exception of the NFL and College football and basketball)

Mostly from match day revenue
Those TV deals are set in stone. In the UK Sky and BT been working overtime showing matches.

Same thing mostly match day money but this happens to be when MLS has to redo its tv deal

Yea but the American franchise way to doing things isn’t really working out that great for the league
It’s really in a tough spot
The espn+ deal letting you be able to access regional matches is nice but not everyone is going to stream and only the most hardcore MLS fan will go through the trouble to do so.

But shouldn’t you be thinking about your franchise first?

Are you sure though?
There’s a lotta shite on ESPN+ Nowadays (maybe even EPL in the future)
Didn’t they just hit numbers higher than they anticipated in Q4?
But I’d think the more soccer that gets added to that will only help people watching the MLS.

And now it looks like future deals in Europe are set to decrease

The article says March day, broadcasting and commercia
Match day and advertising is the big one
The broadcasting deals are set until it expires
But in those major euro leagues the more you are on tv the more of a share you get of the tv dollars.
That’s why United and Liverpool even when they suck get a ton of domestic TV money bc everyone wants to watch them.

With the Premier League, the French Ligue 1 and Spain's Liga also due to negotiate deals for the next cycle this year, there is little optimism that domestic rights, which had grown strongly over the past two decades, will bring a much-needed cash boost.
Maybe I’m reading something wrong here?

The French league is in shambles after the media company went belly up a few months ago
The EPL is fine they will probably stay along with the same type of deal that have now which is massive
That’s from your article
TV rights in most these countries is only one maybe two networks, so there is no legit competition in bidding wars.
Sky is a multi country juggernaut

The French league has faced the most dramatic situation following the collapse of a deal with Spanish agency Mediapro which led to much reduced revenue for this season.

Sky Sports in the UK shares the rights to the Premier League with BT Sport but there is unlikely to be a bidding war between the two when the competition undertakes its auction later this year. While Sky will not want to risk losing its rights and the long-standing relationship it has with the Premier League means it is unlikely to seek to massively cut its fees, there appears little incentive to make a higher bid.

Post pandemic id expect a ton of clubs in Europe to kill it with match day revenue, especially with fans flooding to team shops and stuff.

Those two dudes hold the water for MLS no matter what
You have no room to criticize when you do the exact opposite
You may hate MLS but we have a domestic league that is now stable and producing talent for our national team at unprecedented rates, after prior iterations went bankrupt and failed. But nah we gotta shite on it because we don’t do it exactly like Europe does.
