Did Mitrovic make the most of the contact from Van Dijk? Most definitely. But there was without doubt knee-on-knee contact between the two players, and as such there's no case for a VAR intervention.

I think it was a soft penalty that Mitrovic made the most of - however, there was no clear view showing a lack of contact in order to overrule. It did appear there was some slight contact, of course, in part initiated by Mitro as he leg moved away from the direction of the ball.
All in all, once given, I don't think it should have been taken away. But it was soft, and likely shouldn't have been called in the first place.

Goodness, that is extremely soft. Again, I have no issue at all with it, because we deserved to lose honestly. I do see how it's hard to overturn it though, given there is no clear angle.

Matip limped off with a groin. Looks like a doubt for Palace….kind of excited to see Joe with VVD.

I’m going on record that it’s a huge mistake not to buy another midfielder while the window is open. I totally get the whole waiting for the right guy thing but even if our sights are set on Bellingham next summer and even if we somehow got him, we would still need minimum 1 more mf signing
Thiago misses too much time from injury. Ox is out for awhile plus it’s Ox. Milner can put in a shift but can’t be starting him on a weekly basis

In former employee news, great to see that Michael Edwards turned down an offer from Chelsea. That would have been a pretty scary hire

Twitter chatter is that Nat Phillips is in the starting 11 today

Yep.
Two weeks in and down two CB’s. Don’t like that.

I mean is Gomez really behind Nat in the pecking order?
Posted on 8/15/22 at 1:09 pm to 5 Deep
Really weak starting 11 today. Midfield is a mess

Pierce said Gomez also has a knock so is backup.

Damn this could get dicey.

Announce a CM and CB signing

We look nonchalant. Going through same motions as last season…cross after cross after cross. Need a playmaking midfielder.

Sad to say I am relieved for the second straight week. Taken a point two weeks in a row now where we deserved none. Considering the circumstances, that is an alarming feeling.

Without Thiago we just have nobody in the middle of the park that can dangerously advance the ball. When your only creative outlets come from the wide areas, you become extremely predictable. When Trent or Andy have the ball there’s only one way it can go.
On a positive note, Diaz was a monster today and played harder than anyone on the pitch by a wide margin. He was sprinting back for loose balls 30 yards away while his teammates stood around. Liked Elliotts energy too.
