There are still reports on Rodyrgo being a target.
I'd rather Rodrygo than Isak. You'd have the left and right wings set with Ekiteke up top and Gakpo able to play left or as the 9.
I still don't know what the plan is if you got Isak now with Ekiteke.

Ekitike just turned 23. Isak will be 26 in September and his advanced stats show he's the premier #9 in the world. Hugo would back up Alex in the middle and start a bunch of Cup matches. He can also play off the left and back up Gakpo. I think what will surprise people the most is when Frimpong spells Salah at Right Winger in the domestic clashes. Jeremie is that freaking versatile and he looks to be one of if not the fastest man on the team now.

I think its just cover, with the option to play a two striker formation... we lost both our #9s in Jota and Nunez (presumably)... Granted its a pretty expensive 1-2 punch... but I think NUFC forced our hand a bit and we moved on Ekitike so we didn't come up empty handed if they dont sell Isak...
edit: Isak also doesn't have the best fitness record..
Gakpo was pretty ineffective at the 9 under Klopp...
Im with you on needing another LW though... unless Wirtz as viewed as an option there... I wouldn't bet against there still being money available for a new LW too... we still have Nunez + Harvey to sell which should bring in close to £100mm...
Plus about a half dozen more outs that can collectively bring a nice return..

We know how this will go; a loan request with an option to buy that they won't pick up next summer..

Will be interesting what we would accept for them.

Isak has given the ‘green light’ to Liverpool for a move, having agreed a five-year contract with the club, according to Sky Sport Switzerland. The report says that the Reds will now begin official talks with Newcastle over the move.
It’s added that Liverpool are expected to send an official offer of around £100 million after initial discussions, with the belief that they can secure the seal for around £120 million with add-ons.
A meeting between the two clubs is reported to be taking place over the next 48 hours to begin official discussions over a transfer.

Football Insider reports that Liverpool is quietly working on a deal to sign Guehi, describing the club's interest as "concrete," with a fresh approach to Palace expected to be made over the coming weeks.
It is claimed that Guehi favors a move to Liverpool amid interest from other Premier League clubs, including Newcastle and Tottenham.
Guehi knows the importance of playing regularly ahead of next summer's World Cup in the United States, so it would be interesting to see whether his final decision might be influenced by any assurances that Slot could give him about his prospective role in Liverpool's team.

Newcastle is having a nightmare Summer transfer window. They really need Guehi to provide depth in the middle and play Rightback once Trippier goes down with an injury early in the season. Even if they get Marc we'll have driven the asking price up a bit.

Is Rio about to just waltz into a starting spot over Gakpo? Kid is electric and is producing, albeit against lesser competition for the most part.

Look no further than the Kerkez signing, or for that matter how Mo plays on the right side.
With Diaz, we played essentially a left wing, false 9, right forward. Part of that is because Robertson just doesn't make those sprinting overlapping runs as much anymore that provides width in the attacking third. Trent pushed much closer to goal in attack, which pushes Mo up and allows him to play in the inside right channel where he can do the most damage. This is exactly where Gakpo thrives on the other side- in that left channel.
Ekitike can play in that left channel (though I find it hard to believe he's a better footballer than Gakpo is today) and provide depth for the traditional CF position.
I think in Slot's dream world the formation will look this this in attack. You have the fullbacks providing the width, Isak tipping the spear, your wingers playing in the channels (wide forwards not wingers) and Wirtz playing in the half space between the lines. Kerkez, Bradley, and Frimpong are all willing and able crossers. Getting a Gakpo or Ekitike into the box with Isak at their height will lead to a lot of goals, but they aren't free to do that unless you have a real engine at fullback. Check and check. Wirtz will be able to play those balls into the channels for 3 different options- and make interchanging runs with any of them on 1-2's. Ekitike will be interchangeable with Gakpo or Isak- Much like Diogo and Nunez were interchangeable between center forward and left forward.
--------------------------------Isak------------------------------------------
--Kerkez----Gakpo-------------------Salah--------------------Bradley--
----------------------------Wirtz------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------Macca---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------Grav----------------------------------------------
--------Virgil--------------------------------Ibou--------------------------
---------------------------Ali-------------------------------------------------
I don't know if we will hang onto him, but I also think the Frimpong signing will really unlock Harvey Elliott's best traits. I think where Wirtz is playing is probably Harvey's best position, but having someone with Frimpongs pace at RWB should allow Harvey to play a lot more freely in that right inside channel- which we will need when Mo is gone for Afcon during the meat of the festive fixtures in December

I don't know that he will be first choice this year with Gakpo and Ekitike available for that position (and Nunez at the moment) but I think he will 100% be on the first team bench and see a lot of minutes across all competitions.
Nyoni should go out on loan unless Jones is sold. Kid's ceiling is through the roof but he needs competitive first team minutes, ideally in the top division in England, Germany, or Spain. I think he is ready for top flight football, just not quite at Liverpool's level.

I feel sorry for the Plymouth Argyles of the world when FA Cup sees Rio feature.

I was up early for this one... Rio does look like he will be a special player, but I hope we dont rush him and over use him... but as mentioned previously, I hope we dont block his path either...
Szobo looked really good as well today...

He looked good all season last year.
It’s crazy he’s not going to be the regular starter.

Zero chance he beats out Gakpo, but he seems legit, and he picked LFC to provide him a way into the lineup, so he will play a lot.

New Squad numbers along with the new kit launch..
6 – Milos Kerkez
7 – Florian Wirtz
12 – Conor Bradley
22 – Hugo Ekitike
25 – Giorgi Mamardashvili
28 – Freddie Woodman
30 – Jeremie Frimpong
41 – Armin Pecsi
42 – Trey Nyoni
I like the away kit, but I can't help but think it looks like a United kit...

As the squad stands, I can't help but think you're best starting 11 has Szobo in MF and Wirtz starting on the left... he'd be able to tuck in, because Kerkez is able to provide the width... not to mention, if Frimpong is the starting RB, we will need his work rate to provide cover for him on the right side..
I dunno what Slot has planned, because we haven't really seen a cohesive starting 11 in preseason and there's been a few different shapes...
Maybe we see Wirtz as a false 9 and Gakpo on the left, until Ekitike beds in... Isak obviously changes that because he would be the nailed on starter at the 9

Made our first bid for Isak. Purely the game of a lower bid allowing Newcastle to reject it and save face. Then we’ll do a better bid and depending upon if they need to save face more they can reject that one too before we settle more like 120m rising to 130 or something like that.

Sky Sports News understands Liverpool's opening offer was £110m plus add-ons. However, the total offer did not reach £120m.
Liverpool are preparing a second offer for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak after seeing their first bid rejected.
