Let's critique the new bust of Cristiano Ronaldo at a Portuguese airport

quote:
Cristiano Ronaldo has helped unveil a new statue in his own honour, as the Aeroporto da Madeira was renamed after the island's most famous son.
What should have been a joyous celebration of a glittering career, though, has been sidetracked by criticism of the Portuguese star's bronze likeness.
Questions have been asked as to whether the face actually resembles Ronaldo's in any way, with other assessments of the sculptor's handiwork ranging from "questionable" to "horrifying".

I'm so close to making this my new avatar.

The look on real Ronaldo's face is priceless

My favorite Twitter comment I've seen so far is that the bust looks like an Ed, Edd and Eddy character.

he has to be losing sleep over this. i can't picture his reaction to it being anything other than a temper tantrum, tears and all.

I'd say the handiwork is "shite." May get a better statue from a 4th grader in art class. Or better yet a statue from this couple

Nailed the Russia-sized Adam's apple.

That is just awful.
I am reminded of an episode of Frasier where Stefano, the proprietor of a famous Italian restaurant, honored Frasier with a caricature portrait displayed on a wall in his establishment.

This type of horror has happened before.
10 Unintentionally Horrifying Statues of Famous People
Some of my favorites:
Lucille Ball
As it turns out, everyone thinks the statue is an abomination—even the man responsible. Earlier this year, artist Dave Poulin issued a public apology saying, "I take full responsibility for 'Scary Lucy,' though by no means was that my intent or did I wish to disparage in any way the memories of the iconic Lucy image."
Arthur Ashe
In an attempt to capture Ashe's dedication to social activism, he is shown holding books and a tennis racket high above the outstretched arms of a gaggle of children, frozen forever in a state of seemingly mocking them for their lack of height.
Walter Johnson
"It just doesn't work," Walter Johnson's grandson and biographer Henry Thomas said of the attempt to show motion in his grandfather's statue.
Oscar Wilde
In a sculpture by Maggi Hambling, the bust of the brilliant Irish author rises out of a sarcophagus-esque block. As if that wasn't creepy enough, his mangled bronze features actually look like something that has risen from the dead.
Franz Kafka
In the Jewish Quarter of Prague where Franz Kafka spent most of his life, a sculpture by Jaroslav Rona stands as a memorial to the influential author. Or to giant, headless, handless, well-dressed men everywhere.

Let's be honest, it's a pretty great likeness.
