I appreciated the rigged Brazil vs Croatia game. Does that count?

Let me tell you how I think golf could become more popular in the US.

Get another Tiger Woods.

quote:

First, get rid of driving. What's the point?

Because it's still the most challenging part of the game. As you list in your next post:

quote:

Just make it a chip and putt competition.

Par-3 and executive courses are very common for the amateur. In fact, the Champions Tour just hosted an event on a Par-3 course and the Masters does it every Wednesday before the tournament starts.

quote:

Make the goal 5 times bigger and give -5 strokes for a hole in one.

Stableford scoring and 15" golf hole

quote:

If you chip it in on birdie without the ball touching the green first then you get -2 strokes.

Stableford scoring has a similar reward for hole in ones.

quote:

Add machine guns. Everyone likes machine guns. Golf would be better if someone's life was on the line.

Boo Weekly would be all about this.

quote:

Make women golf naked.

Since you didn't bother reading the rest of the thread I'll explain:

It's not a legitimate discussion. If you come here to discuss soccer, great, but I'm not going to go into the Pelicans board and start telling people how we can make basketball, as a sport that's existed for 100 years and that I know little about, a much better sport by changing specific rules.

The travel call should be done away with. Dribbling looks stupid and it would make the game more exciting.

It was, about 19 years ago.....It´s called every now and then, so that some people with a hankering for ´purism´ don´t go off the deep end about it being a glorified dunking and 3 point contest.

Okay, well truce?

I don't watch soccer much but two of the last maybe 10ish matches I've seen have been tainted by the referee/diving situation (today and the US game v Slovenia). Those are major games on the world stage. I'm not suggesting any specific rule change, but I do think something needs to be done. And I think that would help people in this country support the sport more.

Maybe an extra referee? Or reviewing "dives" after the game and giving cards retroactively? Is that changing the rules too much?

See, this is a legitimate discussion.

The problem you ran into on the match thread was we saw a drive-by posting of 'this is why Americans hate soccer' and assumed that you were just trolling. It also didn't help that the call pissed most of us off, so we weren't going to be the most accommodating.

My intention wasn't trolling, honestly. I didn't know y'all had people tell you that all the time over here. Like I said I don't venture over to this board ever. I was only pointing out something that I think is an issue with many Americans that don't like the sport.

This is something all of us would agree with, I think. We hate the diving just as much as casual fans do. Retroactive punishments would be helpful for discouraging it.

A lot of people on the board think retroactive carding is a good idea.

Already happened

Or reviewing "dives"

would mess up the flow of the game

quote:

after the game and giving cards retroactively

already happens players getting suspended for bad tackles
