I said 33% chance. Which is a “very good chance” in my mind given the context of our talent level and concacaf, i.e. playing teams like El Salvador who barely even have one mls caliber player.
It should be about a 5% chance if we were well organized and well set up.

But they had more possession
I mean yes, technically they did, but it was 51/49... so essentially 50/50.

When was it ever a slam dunk that anyone qualified for the World Cup after one match?
You're being ridiculous.

Portugal was a minute from losing to Ireland at home
the Dutch drew with Norway
France drew with Bosnia
Italy drew with Bulgaria
should I keep going?
Spain lost to Sweden

Canada drew at home with Honduras, Mexico needed a late winner at home against a Jamaica squad that didn't have any of its EPL players.
OP reeks of someone who has not watched a single second of USMNT matches, but just heard about the Nations League and Gold Cup wins and now expects us to win every match by 3 goals.

First off all those teams are significantly better than El Salvador.
Secondly, it’s not just the result. In fact it’s not really the result at all. It’s how we got the result.
Shocking lineup decisions. Overrun in the midfield against inferior competition. Lack of fluidity and game plan going forward. All things that IMO have been a staple of the berhalter. All we’re on display this summer. And yet we eked out wins and so those flaws were largely overlooked, even though they could be fatal in our qualification bid.
Had we drawn, or even lost, but looked improved in those areas I would not have the same sentiments I do now.
It’s like when lsu beat byu 16-0 in 2017 but had about 90 yards passing. And all people focused on was the result. And ignored that the way we played, and the complete lack of improvement in problem areas, was the more important takeaway.

So you must've been really pissed about the Nations League win.

Totally the same thing.
You may need to go to sleep, champ.

Bulgaria is not “significantly” better than El Salvador
holy frick, are you trolling or just retarded?

I mean I guess we don’t really know do we? They haven’t played in a long time if ever.
But sure if you want to cherry pick that one example, Bulgaria is certainly the least good of the teams you mentioned that got results or almost got results off traditional super powers. They are most likely to be close to El Salvador’s level.
The others all have multiple players in big four leagues and plenty of depth in solid European leagues like Swiss or Belgian, I.e significantly better than El Salvador.

I don’t blame anyone for being angry with the draw. It’s all about expectations. Going into the game did you think:
1) We would lose on overall possession
2) Only get 2 shots on target
I would say “no” on both counts. You wanted to see more coming off the heels of the Gold Cup and Nations League. As a fan, we all want so badly to exorcise the demons of T&T 4 years ago.
That’s not to say a draw vs El Salvador away is bad or whatever, or we got outplayed - that didn’t happen. I’m just saying happiness = reality minus expectations.
I think expectations are probably now tweaked closer to reality. Scoring goals is not the strength of our squad to begin with, and it’s not going to be easy in WCQ, bc it never is.

At the end of the day we have seen bad Gregg and good Gregg, maybe even peak Gregg with Gold Cup win. Which he actually showed progress as manager and adjusted his tactics to his squad and not trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
Last night wasn’t bad Gregg. The team did look tactically lost at times which can be attributed to the inexperienced side we put out but a point on the road in Central America is always a positive in qualifying.

That would have been much higher if we simply made better passes/decisions in the box.

No offense but if a doctor said I have a good chance of surviving a surgery and the success rate is 33% I’m gonna be pissed

I don't think we'll fail to qualify
I do think that if we're arguing the US side should be rounding into something akin to "all time" form in this cycle/next, looking to what we've traditionally done away at really shitty opponents isn't the standard we need to be using.
Is the outcome meaningful? No. Is being frustrated with inept performances against really bad opposition understandable, especially given recent history? Absolutely.

A lot of poor individual efforts from young kids who have never experienced this before. I expect we will look more cohesive as World Cup qualifying progresses.

Uhh, what match did you watch? Turner was literally a spectator out there with the exception of like 2 saves...
I think a more accurate take is that ES had a few good chances and we could easily have gone down a goal, and we did not create enough chances or play well enough in general for anyone to feel good about the game, despite being thankful to have the point.
There are legitimate excuses for how the team looked, but let’s hope it was an anomaly.

The game sucked, but i think we will be alright.
Its not like when the idiots on here were trying to convince themselves that bruce arena was a good idea.

Berhalter's most widely panned lineup decision, to start Tim Ream, actually worked. Dest looks like he probably can't be our left back and should go back to his more comfotable RB position, but that was a popular decision to experiment, and I won't knock him for that.
His problem is he doesn't have a striker. He tried Aaronson and Sargent, and that seems like a reasonable lineup decision. The midfield looked thin without Pulisic, but his hands were tied on that front.
