What Jerry doesn’t understand is the best athletes in Europe do track, basketball and rugby. Soccer is a different game.

Such a retarded take.

The greatest soccer player of all time had to take steroids to not be a literal midget. I promise you thats not the issue.

We have the son of a former NFL WR on the team and he isnt the best player on the squad. That would be a regular sized guy from Pennsylvania

Odell Beckham Jr was invited to be a part of the National Academy but he chose American football instead.

Possibly the only example of a "What if?" In American sports. Could you imagine him playing goalie?

And I think he was being targeted as a striker or mid, not goalie.

But think about if the best from football, basketball, and baseball chose soccer.

Baseball is immaterial.

You’d still have to develop the football players and basketball players and I’d argue they wouldn’t necessarily have the skills to dominate the world. One our development sucks arse, two there are plenty of speed and strength merchants who aren’t elite players.

I wouldn’t say Tyreke would be a shoe in even with great development. Still need the touch, the brains, and the creativity to do more than run fast down the sideline.

I see plenty of the elite football players my son plays with (the ones who are touching the ball and running every single play carving up defenses) basically resort to just chasing other kids with the ball in soccer once they hit like age 8…and they play A LOT of soccer. Meanwhile kids who are a step down athletically like mine and some others naturally have the ball stick to their feet and just run them ragged because they’re playing with their head up and able to actually see the field.

Athleticism will take you decently far if you’re really dedicated but a lot of the fastest twitch kids just can’t develop touch.

As a great example is Deandre Yedlin. His top speed clocked in a match was 21.85 MPH which would be in the top 5ish of fastest times clocked in 2025 in the NFL. He was fine enough for the USMNT, and got some time in the EPL, but he wouldn't sniff the current national team even in his prime. I say this as someone who enjoyed watching him play.

Played against HS Odell & Ronnie Vinson in a pickup game. You could tell OBJ dabbled in the sport.
