I always thought fair weather fans were the ones that jumped around from team to team based on success.

I thought it was about fans that only seem to care when their team is good

This thread is fricking hilarious. Bandwagon fans calling other people bandwagon or fair weather fans.
"No dude my story about how I played with them in FIFA is legit but the team having your high school colors is a bull shite reason."
You're all fair weather fans. Get over yourself.
I never said anyone's story is more legit than any others'. We haven't won the league in 30 years so I'm not sure how I'm a fair weather fan?

Alright probably should've worded that differently. Just didn't want to start rooting for a team already great in Year 1.

I think a lot of us are somewhat "forced" fans (because we picked a team we liked and became fans somewhat unorganically).
Honestly though, for not being a long time soccer/EPL/Everton fan, I'm pretty surprised how quickly it has climbed in the hierarchy of things I care about.

When I first got into soccer, I loved the way Ronaldinho played, and he played for PSG at the time. Stuck with them ever since.

Because I liked their colors? I didn't know wtf was going on with overalls on Fifa when I was 14. That was literally how I was introduced.
Lol it gets me how people are so butthurt about City.
sure man we are going to believe you picked a yoyo club that was never on tv back in 2004
dude don't lie about it
People would respect you more if you just admitted you started supporting them after the take over in like 2011 or something. Lying makes it way worse.
If you really have been watching the EPL and following City since then, the shite you post sure doesn't show it.
Especially you trying to down play the Manchester Derby and saying Chelsea is a bigger rival right now.

Precisely. The only City fans in 2004 were the contrarian assholes that came from Manchester. They were never on TV in 2004, 2005, etc. yeah, just man up and admit you like what the sheiks have done and ave followed them since 2011.

Played soccer my whole and finally started watching after the 06 World Cup. Didn't choose a team, but my two favorite players were Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard. Once the transfer was complete prior to 07-08 season, Liverpool had become my favorite club. Have stuck with them ever since YNWA

Really started watching EPL a lot back in the early 2000s and couldn't really "pick" a team, just cause I actually did feel pretty douchy since it was so far away and I've always been a real anti bandwagon type guy. I liked Arsenal because of Henry, hell I really like Van Nistelrooy (I have his Real Jersey) but I neither of those clubs felt like "me" for whatever reason. Chelsea was just starting to do what to me felt like Yankee BS so there was no chance there.
Then I saw the 2005 Champions League Final, that pretty much sealed it for me. A ton of pretty small name players and a 1 man dynamo grabbing the game on his own. Plus Liverpool were "top 4" most of the time but basically pretty mediocre. They had a cool history but were also not a real "top team" so it didn't feel that lame at the time.
Then came the 2007 final, all the epic Chelsea nights, Torres, The fricking owl and then Suarez. They just kept buying badass players that I loved. Alonso, Mascherano, Sami, Agger etc etc.
But yea trying to pretend I'm any less douchy is futile. But I will say I've stuck with them through some hella highs and hella lows. Liverpool's arc is very Razorback esque, football wise and basketball wise so that works for me too.

We've done this before:
Last Year
Last Year

I moved to Manchester after college in Sep '98. United fans loved to tell me how great their team was, but never once invited me to OT. City had been relegated twice and tickets were much easier to come by. My first match was City - Chesterfield at Maine Rd.
City Div 2 98-99
Its kind of weird to look at who they played that year and then get ready for Barcelona on Tues. I still have the orange goalie shirt like the one Nicky Weaver wore at Wembley that year.

Homey - I also came home with one of these. I had £20 in my pocket when I got the airport to fly home and this was on sale for £15.
I had to give it away when City got back to the PL though.

I started following United when Cantona returned from suspension for his kung fu kick. Winning the treble in '99 cemented the deal.

I haven't been a normal EPL watcher since 2009, I'll admit that. Before that it was all FIFA and international tournaments. I'm not saying I'm a super fan or anything but to discredit why I like City compared to why anyone else likes any other team is bull shite.

Watching Michael Owen in '98 WC.. found out what club he played for and kept it in the back of my mind. As I started watching more in the 2000's, I flirted with other clubs and just gravitated towards the Reds and Stevie... I knew I didn't want to pick a London club and Liverpool was a working class town and had the Beatles..
As I dug more into their history, that just helped seal the deal...
Ronaldo was the other stand out player for me, but he bounced around clubs too much for me to latch on to...

And all the teams that everyone in America likes are always doing well. It's fine. Everyone understands. Nobody is going to latch on to Norwich city.
The ridiculousness comes into play when people start laughing about man city fans or whatever but they are Man U or Chelsea fans and they think their super lame reasons for becoming a fan are legitimate.
