I will first say that my fandom of soccer (football) usually peaks around the World Cup. Used to play FIFA in college all the time so I’m familiar with a lot of the intricacies/rules. I wouldn’t describe myself as much more than a casual observer, however, I am looking to try to expand into becoming fans of other sports (currently football and college baseball are my top 2). I figured the EPL would be a good start to try to get into other sports. I don’t want to be a bandwagon fan and choose a team that I know will be good every single year (Man U, Liverpool, etc.). Looking to follow a team that has some sort of the following characteristics:

1. Plays a “fun” style. I don’t even know what this would look like. But a team with more of an attacking philosophy. Trying to be aggressive. Lots of ball movement

2. Has some sort of Star power or young up and coming quality players to follow

3. Not in danger of relegation. Again don’t want the big dogs but also don’t want to follow a team that has zero chance of competing (as a Carolina Panthers fan I can only take so much loosing). Middle of the road teams that are at least competitive are fine

4. Relative ease to watch. Meaning are there special streaming services that need to be purchased. I currently stream with YoutubeTV and have ESPN+

5. Cool stadium atmosphere. I know that every stadium in the EPL will have packed stands and big crowds but are there any unique fan bases with cool traditions or stadiums that can make for fun viewing experiences

I’m sure there are tons of other things that go into picking a team but this is where I’m at. If there are things I may be overlooking just let me hear them. Appreciate any and all feedback!

But really, you’re going to have to buy a Peacock subscription to watch the majority of the games, plus some way to have USA and NBC access (not sure if YouTubeTV covers those).

You should watch as many matches as you can and decide based off what you see.

YouTubeTV should have NBC and USA. Are there differences in games that are on NBC/USA vs Peacock? Like major networks have “prime time” games type of deal

Was thinking about this as well. I know the majority of them are Saturday morning. I’m always up early so gives me something to do while I wait for wife to get up

USA will typically have a game in the 6:30 and 9:00 slots on Saturday mornings then NBC will have one at 11:30. USA will usually have a midweek afternoon game. The NBC and USA games can be streamed on the NBC app. The rest are on Peacock.

West Ham doubly out. They do hit the rest of your points though.

damn dude

kick me in the shin why dont you

OP seems like a potential Wolves fan or maybe Brighton
both of those clubs align with most of his points

if I had it all to do over again I would support newcastle because I love misery and an undercurrent of angry violence in my club

Sounds like you want to join the pleasant misery that is Tottenham fandom. Let me explain:

Ange ball is non stop attacking even when the game might dictate more defensive posturing.

Heung Min Son is a South Korean deity at this point and one of the more likable stars on the planet.

Spurs may not win trophies, but they are usually in Europe and are never in danger of relegation.

See other responses re Peacock / NBC.

Recently completed new stadium that is considered the best in the league and regularly hosts NFL games. It’s a modern, corporate stadium so it may be antiseptic compared to other grounds, but it’s a great venue.

Knowing nothing about the team, just looking at the standings, and the team name “Wolves”. They sound like a good start

I just did a quick search on the internet on “what EPL team should I follow” which lead me to an online quiz and it pointed me to Liverpool. TBH, I really had no idea who any of the teams were outside of Manchester United (due to Beckham) but I really enjoy their history, their colors and cool stadium.

Chris Richards, the USMNT’s best center back, plays regularly for Palace (often as a midfielder), so not a bad choice.

Awesome stadium, historically entertaining players. Will probably have a new, younger coach after this year. Depending on who they hire it could be a really good choice on your part.

That’s also one thing I haven’t researched in forever is who is on the USMNT and where they play. I’m gonna look at that. Gonna check what the schedule looks like for this weekend and see about Wolves/Palace

For those who have Peacock, do you use it for anything other than EPL? Like do they have other shows/movie options you use for it too?

The Office
Parks & Rec
Harry Potter

Side note: Do you have USA network as part of your YouTubeTV sub? Palace is on USA for Mondays match,

The answer is Leeds, always Leeds.

Honest response - I was in a similar situation as you a few years ago and the best answer is to just watch games. You’ll gradually start gravitating to a couple of teams and can decide from there.

Some other, more knowledgeable fans, can correct me here but in my opinion, unless you’re a fan of the big 6 (7 now with Newcastle), all have some risk of relegation.

There are a few documentaries on Amazon (maybe Netflix as well) that follow a few different teams throughout the year. I know Leeds did one, Man City, Tottenham and a few others. That was the start for me - watching the Tottenham documentary, then went to a USMNT game in Nashville shortly thereafter and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Just going by your criteria I think Spurs meet everything. Big 6, so no risk of relegation, but haven’t won anything in a long time so they don’t get the respect of City, United, etc.. new stadium.

Brighton is an interesting club. They have a very good manager, young players, and one of the best scouting teams around. They develop young talent and make a killing selling them to Chelsea.

If you want to be a man then Wolves is the correct answer.

Do you still need to speak Portuguese to be a Wolves fan?
