It's ok as long as there isn't a mass of flesh hanging out of the biter's mouth.

why are we comparing soccer to different sports? It is just different. DWI or GTFO.

You can't compare a non-timed sport like baseball to a timed sport. That's like using bowling or darts as your analogy. That being said, the attention on this game should be on Suarez being an insane vampire/shark.

I just don't get why people care with soccer and not anything else. Again, I assume they have never played the game. Believe me, the players know the deal. You play to the whistle and you can always ask the ref how much time, and they will tell you down to the second. The clock you see on your TV is for your convenience only. But again, if you grew up watching movies featuring amazing buzzer beaters and hail mary's, I can see how this might frustrate you.

Extra time has nothing to do with it considering you know how much extra time there is.
Ya? It appears everyone in that last match don't agree with you, considering 5' were added yet it didn't end until 6'
I'm fine with it being variable by the way. Just admit it isn't exact. Give us what we want!

I like the way soccer keeps time with a running clock and adds time for wasted time, and I like how the game doesn't end during a dangerous attack. The thing I think people have a problem with is that it seems random how much time is added on.

Ya compare USA/Portugal 5' to Italy/Uruguay 5' and it's laughable

Actually, what the 4th official's board says is the MINIMUM. The issue with timing is soccer is how strict the referee is on stopping his watch. In this match, he probably wasn't stopping his watch for every stoppage like he should have because it would have meant 8 or so added minutes. The ref for US vs. Portugal was clearly stopping it at every instance.

Unless the ref misses a player getting out of bounds.

Ya I realize that, and IMO that's a problem. Sure they accept it, players accept it etc, doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss if it's stupid or not.
I'd rather get back to the Suarez buffet talk though

Does Suarez have more teeth than a normal person? Are they in rows like a shark?

Yea, it can change the outcome of a game, as we saw Sunday. But the truth is, you can't blame anyone but the players on the field. And the players wouldn't blame anyone but themselves. I just don't see why people care. You play to the whistle. It rarely changes the outcome, but when it does, it's always the losers who complain.

I disagree with your point. To use your baseball analogy, that would be like playing a tenth inning even though the game isn't tied, and then when the winning team loses saying the players should have just held the lead. That final minute or two shouldn't have been played in the USA-Portugal game.

When do opposing players start coating themselves in Tabasco sauce? Isn't that how you keep dogs from biting things you don't want them to bite?

That Bradley pass shouldn't have been God awful. The Ronaldo cross should have been dealt with by Cameron. That ball into the box in the 5th minute should have been dealt with by Cameron. Bradley should have scored in the 55th (IIRC) minute. Lots of things "should" and "shouldn't" happen but that's why they play the games.
Posted on 6/24/14 at 1:37 pm to thesoccerfanjax
All of those other things happened during a portion of the game that no one would argue shouldn't have been played.
