I didn't watch the game at all, I was in a meeting all morning. Did Italy get fricked?

Italy got screwed by a straight red card that would have been questionable even if it was a yellow. Italy also time wasted and dived all game. Then Suarez bit Chiellini. Then Uruguay scored. Then the Italian coaches tried to fight Uruguay's coaches for time wasting. Last fifteen minutes were crazy because of all that.

I just played in youth leagues but I quit because I wasn't very interested. I've become a fan in the last few years and regret not playing longer. That being said, you don't have to play a sport to know what you're watching. Also, I like the way soccer keeps time, but I think the stoppage time added on often makes no sense.

I'm not saying you don't know what you're watching. Just that you'd probably have a different view of extra time had you ever played.

Maybe I would. And I understand that it's annoying when people watch a sport for the first time and then want to start changing rules. I'm a baseball fan and I hate when people who don't like the sport and never watch start saying there should be fewer games or making other uninformed suggestions.

Italy could have played better that's for sure. They never really looked incisive in attack until they went down to 10 men.
I'm also hesitant to say that highly questionable red cards from central and south American are not just normal for Italy in a World Cup.
That said, 2 instances completely changed the match:
1) the red card that was shown Marchisio was a yellow and even if one argues it as a red, then Uruguay and Italy should have already a few reds each by that point.
2) Roberto Martinez's point seems right on the money when he said that Italy defended Uruguay fine with 10 men until the one they allowed amidst the chaos and flaring emotions right after Suarez bit Chiellini.
Italy could have played a lot better but they were still the better team and the match was a farce but Italians are used to that. It's why most could care less about any criticism the team ever gets.

Trust me. On Sunday, I was praying for the ref to blow the fricking whistle and counting down every second. But the players on the field are not doing the same thing.

Marchisio lost the ball on what was a borderline 50/50 tackle and left a foot high which seems to intentionally graze the Uruguayan tackler.
It was naughty but, say, in the EPL it would have hardly ever been a yellow card much less a straight red.

Maybe so. . . certainly at first he's just trying to get his balance but perhaps he did kind of leave it in even he saw it was touching the defenders leg. . .
either way it was certainly an absurd call to give a straight red.

It's not really normal but, yes, given Suarez's history it would have been more than appropriate.
Especially after the joke of a red card he'd already given Marchisio to keep Uruguay in the match.
Match was a total farce.
