Not sure what the basis is for the ‘he was injured’ argument. A lie by Gregg?

The reports that he wasn't 100% and the reports that corroborated those reports. He wasn't injured, but he wasn't fully recovered from an injury if that makes sense.

Basically worth taking a chance to bring him in to see if he could improve depending on how far we went.

Half of the team, in the most important moment of their careers, didn’t want arguably our most talented player to be there because he was such a self centered, petulant a-hole.

Berhalter probably lied to the media to protect Reyna… Saying he’s injured looks better than saying he’s half assing it during training and scrimmages. But people here will still blast GGG for it because reasons.

This is sad.

I’m glad we finally found something we agree on.

To clarify the story going around re: Gio

There was NO player vote taken regarding his status with the team. The storyline of “13-12” is wrong confirmed to me just moments ago.

There was a vote among the staff who worked for GB including fitness personnel & asst coaches.

Thank goodness. That’s a relief.

I’m tempted to bump the thread vs. Panama in 2020 where Gio got pissed after Gioacchini took the PK and you said that he’d been petulant in camp and hopefully it didn’t impact his standing with the team.

I think the harder thing with the National team is that you’re not with these guys all year long, so when you just have a few stops and you keep acting like a child, it’s harder to have the same level of respect. Again, his skill means you probably have to play him. But it’s not as easy as it appeared originally.

I clearly used Messi to demonstrate the principle,

Here’s the story I alluded to on the herd and talked more about on the podcast. One thing I didn’t reveal yet that isn’t in the story - the vote to send Reyna home was 13 stay, 12 go home
Good Christ

If a team vote is 13 to 12 it means the player should sure af be sent home without needing to mess with the team and this stupid vote shite

Big words after Gregg very publicly chastised Wes for his behavior. I guess airborne69 believes in GGG’s approach to leadership.

As for why Berhalter went into detail on the *anonymous player*'s situation... FWIW: U.S. Soccer spokesman tells me that the summit was "explicitly off the record"

Sounds like Gregg’s comments were not supposed to be published. Talk about a breach of journalistic integrity.

“13-12”

Sounds like something you would tell a player that you were trying to motivate/get right for a knockout match. I seriously doubt there ever was a “vote” and if there was, it was NOT “13-12!” The sad thing is Jesus Ferreira got as many/more minutes than Gio in our most important match in 8 years. Gio will grow up and move on. GGG I doubt can.

Sounds more and like Cya and Gregg should not of said shite. Again what happens in the locker room should of stayed in the locker room and Gregg should of kept his mouth shut.

I just realized but do Gregg's comments pretty much confirm that Eric Wynalda was right a few weeks ago about Gio?

Yes that there was a rift, but no that Greggg told him to lie about an injury.

Wynalda was first to reveal the tension but seemingly took it further.

They need to let Greg go and bring in a USMNT legend to takeover.

To me it seems like we had 13 people that wanted to win and 12 that probably are only there because our talent pool isnt that deep.

100%. I get Yedlin talking to him being he’s the only one with WC experience, but Long played 0 minutes. Why would you have him talk to Gio? Makes no sense.

Sources said players believed the group and its culture would be able to overcome the issues after Reyna’s apology, and that the 20-year-old turned a corner in regards to his effort in training. Within the team, the issues with Reyna ended there, the sources said.

If this is the case why is he putting it out now.

Wynalda walked those comments back. Nowhere in this story did GGG ask Reyna to lie about being injured, and Wynalda also painted it as sympathetic to Reyna rather than the real issue, which was the player’s piss poor attitude.
