Earnie Stewart is now USSF's first ever Sporting Director. He will oversee all technical aspects of the USMNT, USWNT, USYNTs, and ENTs. The USMNT will get a new GM.

Kate Markgraf was just named USWNT GM.

Both GMs will report to the Sporting Director.

Sporting Director will report to the CEO.

Isn't the CEO going to be Berhalter's brother?

What a confusing, bloated mess this is. Do they really need this many layers?
President
CEO
sporting director
GM x2
Then a whole host of technical and developmental directors.

I guess they’ve finally found the best way to use their massive surplus

Oh they are just taking notes on how maximize their careers in a bureaucratic setting. As long as those clowns keep everything top heavy, we are not gonna win a WC in our lifetime. No development money used to scour for talent ala DFB/ Germany or FFF/ France.

We're just making up positions as they go.

Looking at the organizational chart they put out when they first hired Earnie, I think essentially the four positions on the right fall under him now, which should be a good idea on paper. All of the actual soccer related things will funnel through one person.

Have you ever said anything critical (even in a constructive manner) about soccer in the United States, whether about its domestic league or national team?

Are we going to get a job description besides him watching over all the teams?

This is what we have to go on right now.

quote:

As the Sporting Director, Stewart will oversee U.S. Soccer’s entire Sports Performance Department, including the men’s and women’s senior and youth National Team programs, to create a more streamlined structure, align the overall technical approach and ensure greater communication and sharing of best practices within Federation programs. Reporting directly to the CEO, Stewart will also oversee all other Sports Performance departments, including Talent Identification, High Performance and Analytics.

This framework will lead to enhanced player development, more clearly defined pathways through the National Teams pyramid and help drive the ultimate goal, which is winning championships with the senior teams. At the same time, efforts to increase participation in the sport overall will be aided through his influence on coaching education, referee training and club development.

Thx. I wonder if Earnie really had so much work that he needed this new role or if this is USSF doing their normal frickery
