You shouldn't assume it has anything to do with his dad. It may, but calm down.

ETA:Most 17 year olds don't listen to their parents.

I literally feel like a part of me died today when I found out. I remember setting my alarm and waking up to watch the '02 World Cup, then going to my HS football workouts and reliving the night before for everybody. After group stage I got literally about 40 guys on the team to wake up and watch the Mexico game then we all talked about it. It was amazing

I give ZERO fricks if Landon came into camp out of shape. I give ZERO fricks he has had a bad MLS season. I give ZERO fricks if he went to Cambodia for a few months to clear his head.

He is the GREATEST USA soccer player to ever live. He is not 35 or 36 or something crazy, he is 32. You don't want to start him because he can't physically go 90 minutes? That's fine, use him as a sub in the 70th minute. No one can ever tell me that if Landon Donovan RIGHT NOW was at the World Cup subbing on in the 70th minute, they'd prefer Brad Davis over him.

Everyone tries to rationalize this situation and say clearly Jurgy has an agenda and message. Look at how hypocritical he is with the things he's said. Look at his son's tweet. Look at a guy who literally has 1/20th the ability as Landon is going to the World Cup over him. This is Jurgy just trying to show how big his dick is, and I fricking hate it. It's not right, and if anything USA soccer is the last place this should happen.

As many people know, I'm actually going to the World Cup, and I feel somewhat cheated. I was really looking forward to Dempsey, Howard, and Landy all playing their final World Cup because they are some of the forefathers of USA soccer, and have been a huge factor of where we are today and how we're growing. The fact that one of our best players (and that's what he is...no matter what anyone says, he's one of our best players...maybe not top 5 or 10 but def 15) is not going to Brazil, and add the fact that he's the best player to ever put on a USA jersey, is a crime. It's an absolute crime and I'm beyond livid. I will be mad about this when I'm 80 because he absolutely fricked Landon Donovan over.

i love donovan as much as anyone. and the guy was a hero for one moment last world cup, but besides that he didn't provide much in 2012, and he just isn't quick enough or in good enough shape to play out wide for us at the world cup level right now

11 players play, but we bring 23. He could have sat on the fricking bench and not done anything just like Brad Davis will do, or Brooks (I know different position blah blah blah), or probably Green as well. He should have been there. NO. MATTER. WHAT.

Why is this Howard and Dempsey's last? Maybe Dempsey, but Howard should have one left.

No he hasn't. He said he will retire from soccer after his contract runs out in 2018 but he also said that he plans to participate in the next WCQ cycle.

I haven't read the article yet ( will ) but even though I can't disagree in total, J.K. is taking a chance on splitting the team and causing a backlash on certain players whom Millions of Americans will think got their spot because of back door politics / promises.

Why not cut Brad Davis instead? I know he wanted to send a message, but we don't have ALL WORLD players like Brazil or Germany, so L.D can not deserve it and still be a top 15 player of his country.

Now the focus is off the team and on A PLAYER, bad move imho.

right. if he puts landon instead of brad davis, there is very close to 0 backlash on the roster selections. some minor things like terrence boyd and brad evans or something. whatever.

there would be close to zero negativity around the team/his selection. it wouldn't even really be news to non soccer fans (who i actually had asking me about my feelings on LD being left out). it's just a bold move that creates news and backlash when totally avoidable and unnecessary.

I will never understand why Twitter turns people into absolute idiots. What made him think that tweet was ok or even a smart move? Is humanity really that stupid? Because it seems to happen a lot.

I read an article today about how 3 people recently died trying to take "cool" selfies in dangerous poses (approaching trains, for the most part). People are dumb.
