Wait, it's bad logic to say that a defender didn't take a spot from a midfielder/attacker?
Did one of Julian Green or Brad Davis or Mix Diskerud or Alejandro Bedoya take a spot from Donovan? Sure.
Did John Anthony Brooks or Timmy Chandler or DeAndre Yedlin? No.

I'd be just as upset as if it was Besler, Dempsey, Bradley, Howard, Zusi, and almost as much if it was Aron Johansson.
I have been a fan of the USMNT for two decades and the World Cup is one of my favorite sporting events. I enjoy cheering on the team, and I like seeing them succeed. The team isn't as talented as the rest, so to win, we need to call up our 23 best players.
I firmly believe Landon, along with the guys I named, are among our top 10 players.
I always find it humorous watching other teams, like France, Mexico, Argentina, and basically every African team sabotage their chances when their managers make idiotic decisions and hurt their talented teams.
Needless to say, I don't like seeing those same idiotic decisions being made on the team I support.

Donovan sucked lately, never solidified his place with the current attacking core (if you disagree, tell me where he fit in), and he let himself get out of shape. He didn't TRY to make this team, as evidenced by him gaining weight in the months leading up to it, so JK left him home.
Y'all are attaching your own emotions to it, ascribing motives to JK, and blowing it out of proportion. It was a shock, but it shouldn't have been.

A ton of people on here loooooooooooove Landon Donovan. I feel like a select few love him more than they love the USMNT.
I never was a huge fan of Landon (he's still a legend and a hero for Algeria in my mind), so I'm not completely wailing at this decision.
I was #TeamJurgen with my initial reaction because of the statement it made and the balls of the decision, but I'm not sold on Davis over Donovan, even though Donovan hasn't been quality since the Gold Cup. We'll never know how much the personal feud actually played into the decision.
I don't really have a solid opinion one way or the other. I see the merits on both sides, but I think I would slightly lean toward leaving him off.
But he made his decision, and we can criticize it, but we have to move on eventually...and cheer for our country to kill it in Brazil. Not wish we played badly so Jurgen will get fired.

Serious question. What was the last meaningful game the US played? In my opinion, it would be the game against Mexico in Columbus.

Instead of focusing on the negatives here we should be looking at the positives. For instance, I don't have to see Landon's face on national television. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Yeah the difference is I'd just laugh and probably go watch some tv or something. Not throw a three hour long temper tantrum.
Plus, Gerrard doesn't have such an unlikable face.
