If Nasri and Cesc both stick around, and we get Gervinho, Samba, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and a youth or two step up, we could yet again have a deep team. I hope this time Wenger rotates the squad a little more, as the extra games in the CL mean our squad will be pushed to the very limits late in the season.

I don't really know shite about Gervinho except for his fo'head. Gonna need to start diggin up some yewchewb vidyas of 'im.

The noise I'm hearing is that we're set to snap up both Cahill and Samba. I would be very pleased if that turned out to be true.

The English papers are definitely acting like Samba is a done deal.

Hell of a coup then. I'd guess that Squillaci would be gone. Bartley and Miquel on loan.

Good riddance Mark Randall; goodbye Thomas Cruise, you potential treasure trove of easy puns and jokes.

If we got Samba AND Cahill I'd be stunned. It would be great to see it but not counting on it. That would absolutely be a sign that we are doing things differently now. The number of CB's we have that I'm comfortable with starting would go from 2 to 5 (Although I'm not totally comfortable with Djourou and Koscielny).

Anyone have any feelings on the apparent Willian/Douglas Costa interest? Potential Rosicky replacement or what?

Mark Randall

Hard to believe that Randall was making appearances for us as a 16/17 year old in the league up in '06. Lansbury and Randall both made the bench in the 6-3 win over 'Pool in the quarterfinals of that competition.

Lansbury was the biggest prospect at the academy before he got sick with mono I think. Set him back two years. I hope he can put a shift in place of Denilson/Rosicky.

I'd take both. Apparently Donetsk don't want Denilson. I'm betting Denilson will have to go back to Brazil.

Randall was never good. Always upset me when he got PT or got to be the bench instead of Merida.

Samba and Cahill would be a bold move, and surprising. Certainly an improvement, but neither are what I'd consider to be top tier CBs. I wonder if Wenger will let Samba play up top whenever we're down late. Haha.

But they (at least Samba) excels in the air, and hopefully at set pieces, which is where we concede most of our goals. I think Cahill is just overkill, as I'd rather sell Squillaci and use Bartley as the fourth CB. But with our injury record, Camba and Cahill might not be enough.

Samba and Cahill would do wonders for our game against gritty English opponents. It's interesting that in some years we are able to completely dominate lesser teams and struggle against top teams, like in 09/10, while in other years we struggle against lesser teams and do well against top teams, like in 08/09 and 10/11.

It is odd. And I tend to agree, one is nice, two might be overkill but I guess that isn't a terrible thing. Samba's presence in the air will help. I still think a lot of our woes could be cured with better coaching.

I think Cahill is a great player, bit slow sometimes but he's good on the ball (for a central defender) which would be a plus for Arsenal.

No way they sign both though. Vermalaen is still coming back.

Vermaelen's wiki claims that he can play at LB in addition to CB. Is there any chance that Wenger would play him at LB if we have too many CBs? Also, what is Clichy's status? I haven't heard anything recently.

Bring him to training camp, let Diaby give him a proper beat down, and cut him loose.

Digging for anything here, Arsenal still talking to Velez over Ricky Alvarez along with a number of other European clubs. Some people seem to think Arsenal are in front for now.

I like Alvarez as a squad player, sounds like Velez still want too much money.
