Lucas is the best CDM in England now that Essien is hurt, and one of the best in Europe.
No way. You forget about de Jong, Song, and Fletcher, who are better than Lucas. De Jong is probably the best DM in England at purely defending, though he is a shite passer. Song is an excellent dribbler, and his passing is far better than Lucas's. Fletcher has a greater range, and again, his passing is better than Lucas's. Lucas has improved tremendously, but I disagree with the notion that he is one of the best in Europe. When I think of the best in Europe, I think De Rossi. Lucas isn't even close to that tier.

With all of the injuries he might have to.

Miyachi will be in the squad tomorrow. There's an article on Arsenal.com in which Rosicky says we need to move the ball quicker to win. Lulz.

I was hoping those were Mr. Mackey Arsenal jokes. Not so lucky

I couldn't disagree more. Lucas is the best in England at purely defending. He had 40 more tackles than De Jong. And oh yea, he had the most tackles of anyone in the top 5 European Leagues last season. Pretty impressive in my eyes.

No doubt. Lucas on the ball is not something fan's want to see.

He is. He is extremely underrated which is why you don't think he is one of the best in Europe. I didn't say he was better than De Rossi, I just said "one of the best in Europe."

Lucas
He came along way in the past year...I still think most remember the Lucas of old. He needs to sustain his play and prove last year wasn't a fluke...
Masher leaving, really helped him develop into a very good holding midfielder...

Lucas' fan narrative has been a funny one. He was underrated a season or two ago when people, even Liverpool fans, hated on him for not mimicking Alonso's game.
He's consistently been a good wrecker of opposition rhythm and his positioning is maybe the only thin I've seen him improve upon.
I wouldn't call him underrated anymore, more like not flashy.

He wasn't underrated, he was bad. He played very poorly and many fans wanted him out. But the club stuck with him and last year he broke out. I still consider him very underrated, and Dan's comments about Lucas not scaring him confirms it. Unless you have watched Liverpool a decent amount, I feel like most people still think he is the Lucas of old.

Maybe I just watched him on his good days, bc I don't watch every liverpool match, maybe 8-12 a season, usually the big match ups. But in each one he played the quiet DM role really well. Not called on to be terribly dynamic, but to erase the presence of a CAM or forward, make tackles or force a player to turn his back to goal and recycle possession to the opposition backline or supporting middies. That aspect of his game has been consistent over the last 2 seasons from the games I saw

My name ain't Dan. You can call me Friendo, though. And I'm not afraid of Lucas because Eboue is gone now.

I actually didn't know that. Very impressive. At the same time, Paolo Maldini made maybe one or two tackles a game, yet was still a great defender. Those tackles don't say anything about positioning, though. De Jong is so good in that regard. It's just two styles of defending, and it's mostly preference of what you want.

He's just not good enough offensively to be in that conversation yet. It's hard to be a pure DM in the modern game, as you'll probably lose the midfield . If he improves his passing, he can probably enter that conversation.

The silver lining to this comical run of injuries to our defenders is that Wenger will be forced to buy someone to help out the backline finally.
Also, if Nasri stays on, and when Wilshere comes back healthy where does this put Ramsey? Seems Arsenal are playing Nasri as the CAM, I wouldn't mind seeing Wilshere and Ramsey in the center though and Nasri out wide. Does Wenger sit Arshavin in that case and play Walcott and Nasri out wide with Ramsey and Wilshere in the center?

If Nasri somehow stays, I hope for the love of god he plays wide. He's so terrible in the middle. Also we need depth in a big way. Our midfield for the next match might be Lansbury-Ramsey-Rosicky. I actually hope Diaby comes back soon.
