Interested to see if this Saka injury forces Arteta and Josh Kroenke to go get another winger in January. Saka is going to miss these fixtures if he is out until March 1st lets say, 16 total matches:

Vs Ipswich
At Brentford
At Brighton
Vs Newcastle (Carabao Cup Semi)
Vs Man Utd (FA Cup 3rd Rd)
Vs Spurs
Vs Aston Villa
Vs Dinamo Zagreb (UCL)
At Wolves
At Girona (UCL)
Vs Man City
At Newcastle (Carabao Cup Semi)
FA Cup 4th Round
At Leicester
Vs West Ham
At Forrest

Brutal stuff, good news though is he would back for the following big cup matches, assuming we make them:

FA Cup 5th Round - March 1st
UCL Round of 16 - March 4/5 and 11/12
Caraboa Cup Final - March 16th

Not sure what Arteta is gonna do, but that is a massive blow to the season; but if they can weather the storm till he gets back, which they definitely can do because it is Arsenal and they have world class players all over the pitch. March / April / May should be glorious.

With the added fact that Sterling is out

They have to get some attacking help, I’d be criminal not to, but we also said that in the summer, so who knows.

Found this interesting

quote:

Liverpool fans will know all too well that being the Christmas No 1 is by no means a guarantee of a step towards the league title.

In the 21 campaigns when they have been top on 25 December, they have only gone on to be champions 11 times. In the Premier League era the record is worse. This is the seventh time - equal with Manchester United - that Liverpool have been No 1 since 1992, but with only one title won from the previous six occasions.

History shows that only half of the Christmas leaders go on to win the Premier League title.

In 16 of the Premier League's 32 full seasons so far, the team sitting top on 25 December went on to lift the trophy, but in the other 16 campaigns they missed out.

Indeed, in four of the last six seasons, the team in first place at Christmas have failed to finish the season as champions. Arsenal were the last team to suffer this fate, in both of the last two campaigns.

The Gunners were six points clear of Manchester City on Christmas Day last year but ultimately finished two points BEHIND them in May.

In fact, Arsenal have not won the title in any of the four seasons when they have topped the Premier League table at Christmas, finishing second in 2002/03, 2022/23 and 2023/24, and third in 2007/08.

How in the world did Sterling get hurt? Training? He hasn’t played meaningful minutes. I never expected him to come in and be the Sterling of five years ago but thought he’d provide valuable depth, but it has been like he’s been in Arteta’s doghouse. Moot point with both Saka and him out.

So do we make a big move for a forward in the January window?

Yeah I think it was either the day before or day of the palace game he hurt his knee in training.

quote:

The full extent of Sterling's injury has not yet been revealed. Mikel Arteta has addressed the issue, twice, but the player has further tests pencilled in over Christmas as Arsenal try to get to the bottom of his injury. Arteta did go as far as saying the loanee would be out for "a few weeks" - and an update on him should follow.

We’ve got to get some attacking reinforcements in January.

Our only attacker on the bench today is 17 YO Ethan

Martinelli on the RW was brutal to watch that first half. Need another goal from anyone please.

60 minutes in and this match needs an influx of energy on attack.

He’s going to have to leave one of the forwards out so you can bring one on.

Don’t understand starting havertz in the midfield. If anything you put Jesus on the wing then have trossard or Martinelli on the bench.

Who are you bringing in if this was 0-0 still?

Another win, another clean sheet. The NBC guys said it best after the game. Arsenal has a PL Championship goalie and defense. If we are gonna win anything this year, we need some attacking players to get in form for 2025.

We’ve gone undefeated during this period which by table position was our easiest.

But so did Liverpool. 6 points with a game in hand. Idk, even if we beat pool they have to drop 6 more points than us.

I’m not liking our chances.
