I was interested to see how having no true defensive mid out there, and playing 2 attacking attacking mids with neither really sitting at all in the holding role would go.

That goal wasn't a result of that, but it's still interesting. The current lineup is as the most attack centric Arteta can field. They really don't have anyone on the bench to bring on who is a direct attacking replacement, other than Nketiah for whoever is most tired between Saka/Martinelli/Lacazette.

Really need a new number 9 this window if we want to try for top 4. Love Laca but he’s not going to get it done.

If Arsenal can't score with the lineup they have out there then that is a huge problem. Clearly shows Arteta would need to change tactics, and bring in multiple attacking players.

Think the tactics are a bit off, and so too are the players. You can tell some have only just come back from injury. First 15 minutes were great, the final 30 minutes Liverpool pretty much completely controlled the game.

ESR was largely invisible that half. Odegaard a pretty solid half actually for sitting slightly deeper than he normally does behind ESR. Lacazette just doesn't have it anymore to be the lone target man up top for Arsenal if they are trying to compete for trophies and top 4.

I feel Arteta is gonna go for it and bring on Partey at some point, not sure how much he has in the tank, or if its wise to not rest him for the weekend. Does he bring him on for Lokonga?

Shame the Arteta vs Auba spat is still ongoing, because these matches clearly show they could use more bodies/depth at the least to bring on as substitutes.

The players are as much to blame as Arteta's tactics today, they looked real poor. ESR was downright terrible this match. Not able to score a goal despite playing such an attacking lineup is a real bad sign.

Real shame this club has no consistency, they go out and have a great performance down at man at Anfield, and then come out with such a disappointing performance this match. Arteta wanted such a young squad, well here you go. Maybe they don't have the mental drive or discipline to continue performing, maybe the stakes of a semi-final got to them. Once Liverpool scored their 1st the team just completely collapsed and showed no fight the rest of the half.

Arteta/the board are really at fault for having the club in the shape they are in currently with absolutely 0 depth. They shipped off all these players when Arsenal had no one available in the middle of AFCON/Covid, etc and what have they done in the January transfer window? The club is just finding ways to disappoint its fans.

Top 4 Arteta or your arse is gonna be back on the hot seat. Far too many frick ups going on with this club under you. The red cards, and Auba situation are pretty much inexcusable. Having your players look lifeless out there, not able to do anything on attack over and over again. Not bringing in players when you know you are weak at certain areas, might be more of an Edu issue than you but it still stands. Real tired of his shite.

i ve had low expectations for this team since the last few years of the wenger era

the youth on this team excites me but i’m afraid the ceiling with this current club is right outside making europa

until i see a string of strong performances against the top clubs my feeling will not change

Back to back semi finals where you go into the match knowing you need at least 1 goal, and they can't score. Didn't really even get close this match other than the Lacazette free kick.

It wont matter if Arsenal keep falling short and they get gobbled up/want to leave for City in 2 years. I just don't have faith in this board and manager, and it sucks feeling that way.

I honestly think that you can't really take away anything from playing teams like City and Liverpool. They are so much better than everyone. We needed a 8/10 performance and sometimes that isn't enough.

We looked tired today but I think that is down to all the injuries and COVID cases. Now if we look like this against Burnley, no Partey or Xhaka now, we are fricked.

FA looking into yellow card shown to Arsenal player over suspicious betting patterns-Athletic

Doesnt name the player, probably Xhaka. But basically seems like a bunch of people placed a bet on a player to get a yellow and he did. This has happened in the past with players. There was also the Trippier thing with people betting on him transferring and then linking back to him giving sort of insider info.

quote:

The Football Association are looking into suspicious betting patterns around a yellow card shown to an Arsenal player in a Premier League match this season.

Considerable sums are understood to have been gambled on the card being shown and bookmakers alerted the authorities to a flurry of in-game activity.

‘The FA is aware of the matter in question and is looking into it,’ said an FA spokesman. At present, however, it is not a formal investigation.

This has been a disastrous January.

I think our top 4 chances took a gigantic hit today fml.

This is all on Arteta and Edu for their transfer management this month.

And on Partey and Xhaka for being fricking idiots. We have such a dumbass midfield

Vlahovic to Juve. Looks like Arsenal will have to find another forward target.

Doesn't surprise me. Arsenal almost seem content to stand pat with what they have.

They knew heading into this season what they needed. They got it right with getting a keeper, fullback, center back. But also knew they needed another striker and midfielder. Look what has happened, the lack of depth at both center mid and striker has cost them plenty already this season. They added Lokonga as a stop gap in the middle, but still knew they needed another body. That guy is just too young currently to make enough of a difference.

The recent failings are all on the board/management who have allowed those holes to go unfilled.

To be fair, I'm not sure they could sign another striker in the summer. They were trying to convince Balogun to resign. Even though he's one for the future, if he noticed another striker coming in ahead of him and dropping him to 5th choice, he may have moved on. He was still trying to get first team minutes this year.

They already had Auba, Laca, and Nketiah as first team strikers. Laca and Nketiah have deals running out, so they could have bought someone to replace one or both of them this year, but Arsenal would still be in the same situation with Auba being shunned for his behavior.

Just not sure if they would have signed another striker without offloading one of Laca/Nketiah or keeping them and potentially losing Balogun. I assume Laca wasn't sold because of his relationship with Auba. They resigned Auba to that giant deal, so they had to try and keep him happy. He just doesn't seem to give a shite since that deal honestly.

Striker is a huge issue now and in the summer, so they have to make a move. Not sure it was as glaring going into the season.

Arsenal chances of Arthur loan diminishing. They want him until summer, Juventus want 18 months. Edu & Cherubini eventually aligned on 18 months + buy option at ~€40m but #AFC hierarchy reluctant. As things stand it’s not happening @TheAthleticUK #Juve
