If you have TMobile they just gave a free season on Apple TV last week on their T-Mobile Tuesday’s app giveaway thing. Not a big fan of MLS but I took advantage of it just to have soccer to watch when PL isn’t playing. Seems ok so far.
The coverage is good, the footy is eh

I know I'm late to the party here...but why do you have to subscribe to season pass to watch your local team?
Because Apple. I used to be able to watch all the FCD games on the team website.

I watched last nights game since it was free but this move has almost completely killed my fandom. I’m not driving from Fort Worth to Frisco for a game, and i’m not paying whatever it is for your bullshite season pass. I’m sure it’s great for apple and the league, but it fricking blows for your average casual

I find it fricking irritating as a more serious fan…
I can’t even use my friend’s Apple login because if I want to watch on my phone the Apple TV app fricking signs my normal iphone profile out and signs into my friend’s. When I want to buy or download apps I have to log out of his login. Now if I want to watch MLS again I have to log back into his Apple profile on Apple TV and it sends a stupid verification text to my friend who is stoned 24/7 so I never get the verification code back lol. Plus that’s just annoying to deal with.
This whole TV deal is great for the league in terms of $$$ but right now in terms of appeasing casual fans and helping to grow the profile of the league it’s bollocks.

Yea it’s insanely shortsighted
Especially when using a platform that hasn’t proven it can do live sports
When you are desperate for cash you do desperate things

It’s annoying. And it sucks trying to watch it out at bars as well. Austin FC games were played all over town last year helping it grow. Not so much now.
On another note, Atlanta looks like they have some players. That goal from Thiago Almada was other worldly.

They have finally found some form under Pineda. Caleb Wiley has had two good games and Almada is out of this world. Where will he go in Europe and could it happen as soon as next season?

Lol I don’t think this is an MLS being desperate for cash move. I think this is MLS looking at where consumers are going for content and the future is clearly streaming. They’re obviously gambling on this deal coming good in the mid/longer term. Maybe it does and the affiliation with apples streaming service increases fandom more than espn did, but I’m skeptical.

It’s pretty common knowledge MLS operates in the red and it needed a massive tv deal bigger than this one to get it on track
But I don’t disagree with you on them trying to project to the future of sports. But they could have done it better. The ESPN deal had all the ground work laid out for them. They should have tried something with YouTube tv, that would have gotten them in way more homes and more accessible to watch
Most fans are pretty turned off on this. Only the true believers are going to invest in it.
The product isn’t good enough to go so exclusive that they think the masses will subscribe
Most of us have no interest in paying to see a bunch of teams we don’t want too.
There will always be legacy tv channels even if it’s all streaming

Agree with everything you posted. The production quality for the matches and the secondary live shows (MLS 360 and Wrap Up) are straight out of a FIFA Video game though. In fact, EA may do a better job in the video games.

Just glad I’m local enough to hear on radio.
All sports should be free on a radio platform. Even if you stream from far away.
NHL app allows this for every team. Some soccer teams apps have it. I know Chelsea does . MLS app does not. Have not looked into individual teams if mls

I don't have any issue with Apple being the platform and with having a subscription package to watch ALL games, but you should not have to subscribe to watch your local team. Those games should always be included if you truly want to grow.

My favorite part of this is that Ted Lasso is Apple tvs Bell Cow, and now they have an MLS coach bashing the show because of American Coaching stereotypes.
Gotta love the synergy

That’s pretty funny. What coach?

shocked by this:
No other expansion won first 4, weird., but then again how many expansion teams have they had?

A comprehensive win over San Jose and the complete list of expansion teams to win their first four games in the history of MLS is as follows: St. Louis City.
