also this completely invalidates any complaints by these companies re: net neutrality
they are not neutral and don't want a neutral internet. any proclamations claiming they support a free internet are invalidated by these moves
Good point. Google is absolutely not neutral and as we have seen with the way they manipulate search results and the actions taken on YouTube they are openly promoting their ideology, which is at the very least anti-free speech.
The emergence of alt-tech is a great thing for the internet and society at large in my opinion. We just need to make sure we keep the internet free and open and not give in to the moralists of our day which ironically enough is coming from the far left.
The video I linked earlier in this thread by YouTuber Styxenhammer666 is one of many videos he has on this topic. I highly recommend his content on this topic and politics in general.

Seems to me in this modern climate you have to go through a trans just to have a better chance to survive in this technocrazy technocracy! Maybe I'm thinking about it myself

1)The channel is not demonetized, even Rubin Report acknowledges that.
2) Google is choosing not run ads on only some of the "more controversial" videos
3) Google is a private company to do as they please.
4) Google realizes that their sponsors may not want to be associated with such crap.
5) Google may not want to reward some of the more controversial videos with money.
6) We hate our free market today, don't we folks?
Holy shite

in terms of legality, not morality who in this thread has advocated for administrative or criminal actions against Google/Youtube?

they're just going for cheap "gotcha" arguments that they've been told and think are clever

The snide attitude in which they proudly project their ignorance always cracks me up

This. One of the worst things people can do is frame their arguments as gotchas.

I don't know how we can fight against that that doesn't involve reforms that are purely and completely anti free market freedom.
Competing platforms will have to arise. The "Fox News" of social media - I don't know how else to describe it.

Larry Elder on the Rubin Report
One the the better interviews on his show and he even cites it as a turning point for him politically on his show.

I just don't understand how this guy is considered controversial. It's insane.

100%
this is THE GUY who is fully milquetoast in this political-conversational climate
part of his whole shtick is to not be trolly or controversial to return to normal, civilized discussion (on both sides)

The frick is this shite? I didn't comprehend half the verbiage used there

quote:Good points in your post, but disagree with above. The platform would certainly take a hit, but YouTube existed and grew before the influx of semi-professional content providers (most of us probably remember its launch). I would bet a lot of people still just go there for movie trailers and music (and the occasional puppy video)--not to hear one more rando talk about his take on politics.
YouTube would not exist without them. Google simply provides the platform but YouTube would not exist if the content creators all left. Kind of like how noone gives a frick about Myspace anymore because all the users abandoned the platform. Same will happen to YouTube if they continue to abuse their power and piss off content creators.

he gives pretty good commentary pretty often
i never link his videos b/c he's often in a leather jacket with no shirt on, though
here is a recent, clothed intervjew with PJW from 9-5-17 on this issue

I realize that. But you all are hating on a private company for choosing not to monetarily reward someone for some of his "more controversial" videos.
We hate the rights to private businesses today, don't we focus?
Do you think that in a free market people aren't allowed to call out bullshite? Aren't allowed to complain?
Jesus, you are fricking stupid. . .

of course not. he thought it was a clever "gotcha" argument
and it doesn't make any rational sense b/c it's essentially a straw man (as shown with his later explanations re: gay cakes)
the only question is how much of this was just an ignorant gotcha or whether it displays a complete misunderstanding of what free trade is (ie, people who think "capitalism" is some top-down system b/c their world view is authoritarian and that's how they see all institutions)

Can you explain to me how YouTube monetization and demonetization works? Or do you have a link?
