Taser him up side the neck and pull him out by his ear lobe. (Just how big a boy is he?) This is after backup has arrived.

Bingo

I'm not quite understanding the mind set of someone when a cop gives them a lawful order, they think they can disagree or argue with him.

"Sir you have a warrant out for your arrest. Please step out of the car."

"No I won't"

"Yes, I can promise you, you will "

Call back-up and k-9 unit. Wife used to watch Cop shows. Every time Fido latched on to the perp, they got real agreeable. Sang the news.

I used to be a big supporter of police Taser use but for goodness sake, Police are fricking complete morons when it comes to using them.

There have got to be a thousand videos of police hitting someone with a taser and then using the fact that people being tazed physically move to then, taze them again.

While screaming, "stop moving!!!!".

Clearly, a taser in the hands of an intelligent person is a great thing but in the hands of these low IQ men in blue............hmmmmm

What you SAY you would do and what you would ACTUALLY do are light years difference.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that I wouldn't participate in a group murder after he was restrained

This scenario is theoretically true.

This scenario is insanely rare. I mean to the point where it doesn't exist, statistically.

A lot of people talk about cops as if they shouldn't have any better restraint than your local Bubba at the bar.

You hear a lot of, "well, yeah, but what happened BEFORE the video". As if ganging up to beat someone to death could have ANYTHING prior to the video making it OK for cops.

Oh sure, if some dude was shooting at me before my friends and I overwhelmed him, WE might beat the dog shite out of him and he'd have it comin. But WE aren't agents of the state given a badge, gun and authority.

If a cop can't manage to remain professional, he can go be a plumber.

Wait, escalation of force BEFORE anything actually happens to require the escalation?

Sheesh you people are morons.

One thing I always thought about- could there be a device that would hold a car in place if they tried to run in these situations. This would allow additional responders time to arrive.

Something like this but not deployed.

You don’t think you’d treat a guy with a warrant for murder different than you would a guy with a non-violent warrant? If not, you’re a moron.

Call in reinforcement, have one park in front of the car and wait him out. Eventually he will get fed up and try to leave either on foot or in the car. Either way follow him. Have technology like helicopters and drones follow him. If you don't have said technology take some of the money used to defend lawsuits from violating rights and injuring people and buy the technology. Eventually the person will have to comply on their own terms.

The alternative is to reach in the car, lay hands on him and set off a destructive wave of property damage and possible death and destruction across the country. If the goal is to prevent the red light running you already failed at that...it just happened.

If your job is to enforce the warrant most likely you weren't aware of that when you pulled him over and only found out when you ran his license. Most likely there ain't no concerted effort to enforce the warrant, why is it so important on the side of the road???? You ran the license so he complied to that point. You know who he is, you know if the car he is in is his, you know everything you could possibly need to know from an interview on the side of the road. You already failed to prevent the crime of running a redlight, is it advisable at that point to compound that failing by beating the man to death on camera and causiing a wave of violence and destruction across the nation???? Is the goal getting him out of the car or protecting and serving. Is it one more arrest that is the goal or protecting and serving and avoiding a nationwide riot of epic proportions?

The main most thing that ought not happen is one or a gang of cops drag him out of the car, whup his arse and possibly kill him, and setting off a wave of violent and destructive protests across the nation. I know many people love the idea of doing just that but we have been there and done that and nothing good has or will ever come from it. Before another cop finds themselves in this situation we, as a society, should decide what we want police to do. Do we want them to make arrests after a crime has been committed and there is a victim or do we want them to prevent crimes and protect and serve the public. It ain't possible to do the latter if arrests are the goal because an arrest should mean a crime was committed and a crime means someone was a victim.

There is nothing in crime prevention or protecting or serving in dragging a person out of a car and beating them senseless. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either an idiot or being dishonest. Nothing good has or ever will come of agents of the state behaving in such a manner.

Plot twist, the computer got it wrong and the person has no warrant. (This happened in Georgia recently).

What happens next?
In this unfortunate situation, why would you refuse to get out of the vehicle and identify yourself?

If I’m stopping by a cop and he tells me to exit the vehicle and that I have an outstanding warrant, I’m like, “Yeah, that’s a mistake. Let’s get this straightened out.”

If you’re innocent and it’s a mistake, no need to escalate the situation.

Its also important to know the back story. What is the warrent for? Is it a non-violent offense? For certain do not murder that man on camera. Is it for a drug offense where violence wasn't involved? For certain do not execute that man on camera. Is it for a violent crime? Wait for back up. You already have as much information as you are going to get on your own on the side of the road. For sure and certain do not drag that man out of the car and murder him on the side of the road because chances are good if he was violent before he may well be more violent than you and you won't go home in the same shape you left home. In fact I don't think there is a reasonable and logical reason to drag that man out of the car and start whipping on him other than the need to establish authority. If that is what we want police to do then we should paint "Establishing Authority" on the side of police cars instead "To Protect and Serve". I don't think establishing authority is the goal most people think of first for the police in their community. I would bet crime prevention is their main concern.
