Her pants are too small, but not worth sending her home over.

teacher tried reverse psychology to become the topic of another thread on the OT... didn't work out this time

If that is her and the sweater there is nothing wrong with her or it

absolutely
as someone else said; confronting the student in front of the whole class escalates a shitty situation into an untenable situation
the real kicker is THIS from the article:
quote:
In another, Barber said her daughter requested to be removed from the teacher's class because she was "embarrassed and horrified."
The principal denied the request, Barber wrote.
this principle is a moron and needs to go as well if this is true

Agreed - and if you pursue this, you have this talk in the assistant principal's office to clarify what is and isn't dress code. Even if it's a technical violation, you tell her what she has to do to get in compliance, not suggest she buy "plus" sized close.
Sounds like an IBTC teacher with a little bit of the green monster to me.

Honestly, it's past time to make fat shaming a hate crime. People of size for the most part can't lose weight. If you have larger dna you can try all the diets in the world and get a planet fitness membership and still not lose weight
That is bullshite.
I went to school in the late forties - graduating in '56.
There was only one obese girl in all that time. She really had some kind of problem - sat all day and would pee in her seat rather than go to bathroom. We had a 400-500 student high school. The tackles on our football team weighed less than 200 lbs. I ate like a horse and never broke 140 in high school (I was the center on the football team)
I recently was a high school math teacher in Vernon Parish - Over 2/3 of the students, and especially the girls, were obese by normal standards of just 60 years ago.
Yeah - the 50s were a long time ago, but humans don't evolve in that time. The difference is outdoor activity. We didn't have air conditioning - nobody would sit inside during the summer. We were all out doing stuff.
And we ate healthy. There was not a plethora of crap like Skittles, or donuts, or soft drinks, or junk food. We'd get a treat of candy every once in a while, cake on birthdays, hot dogs at campouts, etc.
And we didn't go hungry - Meals had 3 vegetables, at least one meat, biscuits, rice, gravy. I never met one real 'hungry' person.
It is all driven by lifestyle - and while individuals fat people should not be taunted
it is bullshite to try and pretend that there is not an individual solution to 99% of this problem. Pretending that is it normal is the worst thing that can be done.
eta - my response is only to the quote I posted. I do not support what this teacher did - she should be severely sanctioned for such inappropriate behavior - including firing or leave without pay.

Everytime I think some teacher has won the contest to find the dumbest teacher in the country another teacher comes along to prove me wrong

agreed
but if a teacher told someone that I care about, "Hey - you need to be shopping at the BIG girl store"
I would unload on that educator

Meh. Depends on the circumstance.
For this one it made no sense. I would understand it better if she were saying the girl's pants were too tight but there was nothing wrong about the top she was wearing.

I graduated in the late 80's from a high school (9th-12th) with an average of 400 students total. You could not only count the number of obese one two hands but that would include "muffin tops" as well. Now "muffin tops" are the norm.

I have seen girls in prom dresses be way more provocative.

the teacher should be fired.

That's a legitimate "woman's rights" issue. No sarcasm.
