Not long from now we're going to be watching "Ouch, my balls" and using gatorade on crops.

No shite, there’s some kid who started a thread thinking he needs to purchase a 750K home.

the National Endowment for the Arts found that just 37.6 percent of Americans said they'd read a novel or short story in the year prior — a share down from 41.5 percent in 2017 and 45.2 percent in 2012.
This is so sad. Reading fiction is the absolute best thing anyone can do to enrich themselves.

Your politics and support of social engineering helped with the dumbing down of America. Congrats.

Common Core math isn’t helping either.
You have to learn how stuff works to be able work on it, especially with technical stuff. I learned by trial and error, working on vehicles, ATV’s, outboard motors, and small engines. I tried to teach this to my kids. Living in rural America is an advantage in some things. A Chilton’s book or a YouTube video can both help you change a part. But to really be able to troubleshoot something, you have to understand how it works.
Thinking, troubleshooting and problem solving are all skills that can be learned for most people. Some people will never learn because they don’t want to. Some people never learn because they’re just not capable.
Also, you can’t learn much if you’re just playing video games all day or only doing sports.

There isn't any reason to suggest that human intellect has been harmed, the publication counters — but in "both potential and execution," our intelligence is definitely on the downturn.

Anyone supporting Dem ideologies posses zero critical thinking skills. Think I'm exaggerating??

Obviously, there's no single answer as to why people seem to be struggling with cognitive skills, but one key indicator is the sharp decline in reading and the world's changing relationship to the way we consume information and media. In 2022, for example, the National Endowment for the Arts found that just 37.6 percent of Americans said they'd read a novel or short story in the year prior — a share down from 41.5 percent in 2017 and 45.2 percent in 2012. ...
Reading is the cheat code to school. In k-12 and most of college, almost every subject comes down to a test which comes down to reading comprehension.
Get your kid to enjoy reading actual books from the start and school will be easy for them.
If they don’t enjoy reading, they can still get good grades, but they’ll have to work their arse off to do it because their brain won’t be wired right to succeed.

The mind must be challenged to remain sharp. That's not happening much now.

So yea. Critical thinking doesn’t stand a chance.

Both result in the same outcome, but step B you didn’t acquire any additional information or knowledge along the way outside of how to fix that particular issue, whereas step A you may have learned a ton more about cars and engines through reading and trial/error.
Yes and no. I see your point that option B doesn't give you a full understanding of what you're working on. I've always found the videos help focus me on one system which helps me better understand how that interacts with the whole. But, maybe that's just how my brain works.

Don't be silly.
This is much more due to screens and social media, and parents raising their kids in front of those screens and allowing brain rot via observant-based social media.
I imagine ultimately we'll find out the problem is focus/attention span, and not raw intelligence. But the testing for the intelligence is suboptimal due to the focus/attention span issues.

Or think about it like this, I can get a recipe out of a cook book or online and follow the directions. If you follow the written steps on paper vs them being digital, did you really learn less? You still had to cook the meal either way.
Correct, but what he's talking about is the difference between following directions blindly and learning why the directions state what they do (and thus being able to adjust on the fly, if need be).
The argument is that the increasing over-reliance on technology to show us how to do things is, effectively, training us to rely more on short-term memory to accomplish things than learning and remembering.
