IMO this is a case by case issue. If they are truly assimilated and being productive then letting them stay is a benefit to all. However, the size of the issue makes case by case extremely hard.

I don't know enough about the DACA program to say we should keep them all here.

I will say that if their situations are like the one I mentioned above. They should be allowed to stay.

She has to pay hundreds of dollars every couple of years to stay in this country under DACA and she cannot break a single law or she is out.

She's educated and working and for all intents and purposes is an American. If we kick these people out, shame on us.

I don't really care if immigrants see opportunity here anymore. We take on too many as it is, and we have way too many issues plaguing the Americans that are already here to worry about immigrants.

The problem is we take on too many useless ones. We do need some to do shite jobs but we take far too many that cause problems.

We need to secure the border and then come up with a common sense non pc immigration policy.

I can answer that for you. I saw it on an episode of How the States Got Their Shape. Michigan and Ohio both wanted Toledo in their state. Large port there. Ohio had more political pull in Washington so Toledo was given to them. To make up for it, congress gave Michigan the peninsula. Wisconsin wasn't yet a state, so they had no say in the matter. But according to show, Michigan came out way ahead in the deal over the long run with timber and minerals and considering Toledo isn't as much an important port as it was many years ago.

Sorry, for the hijack, I was just excited to finally use that piece of useless trivia.

I remember that. Wisconsin got fricked hard.

IMO Michigan should sell Detroit to Canada it's a good deal for all. Canada gets diversity and Michigan losses a dead city.

Based on the quotes they feel more like Mexicans than Americans...so the feeling is apparently NOT mutual? Guess if they feel like Mexico is their "true" home, then more power to them. I think it would be GREAT if they could go back to Mexico and turn it into a better place. That would be ideal for both the U.S. AND Mexico.

If you really want to solve the border problem, kill the cartels. All of them. With unforgiving prejudice. Make Mexico a place worth living in. Problem solved. No reason why a country that shares a border with us is so disgraceful.

Sounds like she's making the decision to go back to "her country", aka Mexico. She doesn't feel like she belongs here anyways.

This isn't a good thing. DACA kids are, for the most part, pursuing a higher education. They all speak English. They can't have a criminal history. They're not on welfare. They're the type of immigrants that we want.

Except they tend to vote Democrat. So get 'em out of here.

You didn't read anything I posted.

First she isn't Mexican, she's middle eastern, she was brought here when she was 1 years old and left with distant relatives.

She's never known her country of origin. She grew up American and she loves this country.

I read what you posted but didn't realize you were already discussing a different DACA from the OP.

ETA: That's fine. I'm sure if she is able to support herself then she's in good shape.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure Trump gave the go ahead for DACA. I heard that on the Shapiro Radio Show...I'm pretty sure at least.

You hope that we never have to have these sorts of dilemmas in the future. This is the type of shite the grey areas people adopt create. It needs to be BLACK and white. There needs to be a hard line drawn at some point. People just abuse the grey areas and it ruins for a lot of genuine folks caught in that area.

You ever think that the reason most immigrants vote this way is because of the rhetoric that comes out of the rights mouth?

Don't get me wrong. Secure the border, get the illegals that overstay visas and hop the fence the hell out of here.

But these people who are here by no fault of their own, who follow the rules they are required to follow to stay here, get gainfully employed, and WISH to become citizens should be given a pass.

It actually serves america's interests better if we train up the best and brightest from other countries and they go back and make their home country better.

I agree,

Give the existing DACA's a path to citizenship and a deadline to complete it. Once that deadline is met, close down DACA and make the system black and white.

The only path to citizenship for her is to get married or go back to her country of origin and wait out the process.
I've known three people in the same situation, all Mexican, all good folks. They applied for citizenship. They got in line.

When the time came, they returned to Mexico for a short time, took care of requirements, and are now legal immigrants.

Their biggest concern was actually the process in Mexico.
US citizenship hearings/processes are apparently public knowledge there. So criminal elements know the applicants have money saved and available. That makes these folks extortion/kidnap targets. It is a problem. It could be improved.

But it is the law.

Not necessarily. A person from India, Mexico, Japan, all good. If a woman from some frickitstan comes here to study and goes back home, she will not live for long.

I'm sure it was fine for most people to go back to their country and wait in line.

You're asking some of these people to go places they've never been and don't speak the language with no resources and wait.

Imagine tomorrow you found out you aren't really an American citizen but are instead Egyptian. Despite having lived here your whole life, you are kicked out of your country and sent to Egypt. That's the reality some of these people face. Not a simple border hope to mexico where they know tons of people and speak the language.

This won't stop until the cartels are all dead. Not in jail, dead.

No. It wasn't fine. It was hard. They could have remained illegally. They chose a more difficult initial path.

Why?

I am asking them to do the same thing any applicant for US Citizenship must do.

I'd be very disappointed if my parents put me in that situation. Then I'd do my best to overcome it.
