And there it is. I've come to love you guys constantly beating this drum, because it's actually killing the word. When everything is racist, nothing is racist.
I'm not one of those "guys," and I don't constantly beat that drum. I reject the accusation overall. I've never said it before. I'm not a liberal. I'm a classical conservative. I know what it means. I don't run around calling people racists. Ever.
On this issue, I'm changing my mind. When you have a situation when there is a person brought here Young who tries to make something of themselves, didn't choose to break the law, works, speaks English, and is taking responsibility for their life - when they are told they might be deported they make the best of it, don't give up, try to figure out how to adapt, and maintain a positive attitude - when people continue to want THOSE people deported and REFUSE to even consider creating a pathway of application for them to stay, I am only left with that perspective being rooted in some kind of prejudice, or racism, or something very dark. Call it what you want.
A person doesn't have to BE a racist to take on a racist or prejudiced perspective in one area. That is what I'm saying.
Deporting this girl has NOTHING to do with
- security - she is not a threat
- the economy - she works, pays taxes
- culture (she is American culturally)
- rule of law - we can create an avenue for her since she came as a child
There is no logical reason to deport her. But, still, people here are jumping up and down with glee at the prospect.
"Well, bye!"
I'm really reluctant to say, "racist." But, sometimes it applies. It also has no meaning if you can NEVER use it. That is the attitude here. One can NEVER, EVER, EVER call anything racist ever. So, you are the one for whom the word has zero meaning because it can never be applied unless someone is in a Klan robe. That is ignorant.
Yeah, I NOW see this drive to deport people like this girl against all logic, reason, compassion, or humanity as ultimately rooted in a racist perspective. That doesn't mean that the adherent of this view is a complete racist. I have no idea. But, he's working off a racist ideology here.
I used to not think that. But, friends and family I've heard from on this and the attitude of this board has convinced me of it. Congratulations.

If she doesn't want citizenship, she has a different decision path. You seem intent on mixing the two.
She wants citizenship, she doesn't want to go to the middle east, it scares the shite out of her.
Her only recourse is marriage, and she is hoping she can find someone before republicans end DACA (assuming they are intent on ending it)

It isn't logic. It's a racist perspective
No real difference between it and Jim Acosta's recent immigration idiocy.
The POV forwarded here pertains to French, Irish or Italian immigrants. It pertains to white South Africans, Canadians, and Aussies. It pertains to Asians, Hispanics, Saharan and Subsaharan Africans. All treated equally. None advantaged. None disadvantaged.
Instead of exposing racial leanings in casting self-descriptive aspersions at others, perhaps you'd do better in asking why any migrant, of any race, of any background should have to ""jump through hoops"" to attain US citizenship.

She didn't choose to come here. She was brought here and grew up here. Her "figuring it out" means that she has to leave the country for 20-25 years and start over at the back of the line in the country of her birth. Why not let her stay and get in the back of the line here, but work legally, pay taxes, and live here where she grew up? Give her a work permit to stay legally. If she wants to apply for green card and then citizenship, why can't she wait 20-25 years here? Why can't they get in line and stay here?
Deporting them is inhumane. Not all will adapt well. Some already have U.S. Citizen kids. Some have siblings born here. Why not create a line for them here and make them work, wait, contribute, but give them a goal at the end? 20-25 years from now? If they commit a crime, they are gone. If they aren't working, they're gone.
Why not do that? Who would it hurt? WE can change the law and allow it if we would. Why not?
Sure, there are reasons why. None of them are in our best interests as a nation. We can create carve outs for those who qualify.

Maybe sometimes it's racist.
I think most of this board is just extremely too logical to a fault. Letter of the Law types.
The law says she must go back and follow a process. I understand that. But we have an opportunity to improve the situation for people like her, laws can change.

They have real issues with brown people overall or with those different from them. It might not be all people who want her gone, but my OVERWHELMING experience tells me there's a lot of racism involved here.
For me it boils down to this, there is a process in place that hundreds of thousands are following as required by our laws, allowing those who effectively cut in line to benefit from their behavior encourages others to do so as well.
The US has had so many amnesty programs in the past that people just seem to believe it is some right, sneak in and they will let you stay, this has to stop.
FYI the lady in question should have taken part in one of the earlier programs and she would not be facing deportation at this time. We have already granted amnesty to 6 million illegals since 1986, had she paid a small fine and applied in 2000 she would already be a citizen.

No. I don't agree with open borders and don't think just anyone should be able to come.
These people are already here. The vast majority are Hispanic and Asian. Try to keep up with the actual discussion. Acosta was talking about future immigration limits. I'm talking about DACA and those who've already been here 15-20 years and why we shouldn't deport them.
Geez, man. C'mon.

This is DACA. She was a kid. You are wrong. There has been no Avenue. She availed herself of what was offered her. Now, we're taking it away.

If she wants citizenship, she'll simply need to figure it out.
If the only way she can see clear to accomplish that goal is returning to her country of origin for years-and-years-and-years-and-years as you'd have it, then I guess that is what she'll need to do. It isn't what others in her situation have had to do. But for purposes of discussion here, your claim is that's her only choice. If so, there it is.

Now we are deporting them?
Under what circumstance?

I never said "years and years and years" but even 6 months there would be extremely hard for her.
The point is, Yes she has options, but why can't we give her a path to citizenship while in the DACA program? Why can't she apply for citizenship now and continue to abide by her DACA restrictions until it is cleared? Why must she leave, then apply, then come back?

No. I don't claim to be a moderate. I am a Burke-Kirk-Buckley-Reagan Conservative in my political and governing philosophies.
I decidedly DO NOT believe whatever you do, that is for sure.
But, calling me a liberal just demonstrates once again how ignorant and uninformed you are on these subjects.

Why does she deserve priority over others who have applied from her home country? Because she was here illegally?
I have no issue with legal immigration, I have a huge issue with rewarding cheaters, and that is what she is, sob story and all.

If a kid was brought here at 4 years old illegally in 2002 and is now 19, show me how they could have gotten legalized status other than DACA. Go ahead. Show me. What avenue was available to them that they just chose to ignore?
I'll wait.

Because she was BROUGHT HERE AS A CHILD illegally.
She didn't willfully break the law. That is what DACA is. It is an exception for CHILDREN.
Geez, man. This isn't hard.
