You are not participating in the system. You have no real information. You are in the dark

We all want to be able to follow the news and have it give us information that we can use to navigate our lives.

The problem is, there’s no such thing as “the news”. By the time we get a headline or a story it’s already been sanitized and shaped by the powers that be. The big money. The people who control our politicians and own the “news” outlets.

Be careful about your political opinions. They’re likely not very well informed. Instead, focus on your community and the people you can trust and make your local world a better place.

A return to who what when and why would be great.
ETA: sorry, Mr. Where. I forgot you.

There is probably some truth to what you say. Maybe even a lot of truth. I suspect it’s always been like this for humanity on some level. What’s the alternative? To get so jaded we stop looking for the truth and asking questions about our government and people in power? I’d bet the thing that scares them the most is if the people/masses decides to turn on them. If that happens they can’t stop it.

Agree.

No need to go out for corruption and conspiracy.

We have corruption and conspiracy at home.

In many ways you’re not wrong.

But then there’s really no reason for this silly board/pastime that many of us enjoy partaking in (and poor SFP might literally dry up and perish).

At least we’re genuinely interested in what’s going on with our country at the national levels.

There’s many out there who don’t give a shite about that (and they don’t even get involved locally either).

This is a good observation and the ingredient that has to be added to information that's missing that keeps this from being "the news" is trust (and for you to trust information, you have deem it or more likely its sources trustworthy) and you're describing a shrinking trust circle that many others have at the moment. I like the idea of acting locally, but we all will inevitably need larger-scale trustworthy news.

Operation Mockingbird.

If anyone thinks it's actually inactive now, with everything so available for everyone to see at will, then they're either willfully ignorant or just plain stupid.

I pay as much attention to speculation as the actual news

This is why Independent Media has been so important and allowed the public to become better informed. Your correct, we should seek multiple sources and perform our own due diligence. But the MSM is definitely not a good source of information.
