While jurisdictions like California and New York move toward banning the sale of new gasoline-powered cars, one US state wants to go in the opposite direction. Wyoming’s legislature is considering a resolution that calls for a phaseout of new electric vehicle sales by 2035. Introduced on Friday, Senate Joint Resolution 4 has support from members of the state’s House of Representatives and Senate.

In the proposed resolution, a group of lawmakers led by Senator Jim Anderson says Wyoming’s “proud and valued” oil and gas industry has created “countless” jobs and contributed revenue to the state’s coffers. They add that a lack of charging infrastructure within Wyoming would make the widespread use of EVs “impracticable” and that the state would need to build “massive amounts of new power generation” to “sustain the misadventure of electric vehicles.”

In other words, taxes laundered to politicians.

I doubt there is a place to charge an EV outside of Jackson. You're a retard for wanting to buy an EV and live in Wyoming, but I see no reason to ban them. This is just political theater.

What does Liz think about this?

I would think she is Anti-EV! But she is a slimy politician, so who knows.

Common sense legislation.

I can't think of a worse application for EV technology than the vast expanse of Wyoming with a very harsh winter.

WY uses more oil than they make. This is why republicans keep losing elections. Idiocy.

Two red buttons.

Using more oil gives us an excuse to bomb the Middle East

EV allow for warrantless spying on Americans

She doesn't care. Infact her family is just like the Bush family. Lots of oil and Gas mineral and stock. Liz made 40 million on with her time at a 200 thousand dollar a year job. She could care less. She makes her money in Washington. She could give a crap what Wyoming does.

Agree government overreach is overreach regardless of which side’s doing it.

Now they need to get rid of all the wind turbines that are a pox on the WY landscape.

This is negotiating for the avoidance of mandatory EVs. Threaten to make them illegal, then compromise on middle ground. That way, they don’t have to build charging stations all over a huge rural state with taxpayer money.

I can understand why WY is going this route. Until researchers can come up with battery technology that is as efficient and as cost competitive as the internal combustion engine I see no reason to recklessly abandon the proven convenience and affordability of the internal combustion engine.

Read up on lithium mining. It's a real life ecological apocalypse. Nothing like the CO2 hoaxers that have to rename their hysterics every twenty years or so. (Global cooling, global warming, climate change.)

I can see why. The speed limit on the interstate changes to 90 mph when you hit Wyoming and you can easily drive for an hour+ without ever seeing a gas station.

Yeah wouldn't make sense for most people. I worked there a few months and found myself on some pretty long commutes. If you stayed within one of the towns and worked in town it might make sense if you had a single family home with your own charging setup.

But there is no way I would own an EV living in that state

Wyoming doesn't want to invest in the future so why not ban it.
