I have no problem believing that she was pretending but I'm highly skeptical that she spent any substantial portion of it on student loans. More like hair extensions and crab leg buffets.

Wow that is a strong accusation.
Maybe they are just generous. Some people like to give out of the goodness of their heart and maybe some might found a way to use it as a tax write off. She, like many take advantage of the generosity of others. No crime in being generous. I chose to make my money, on my own and not live off the generosity of others.
Bottom line: She is a con artist.
She is like the chick at the bar making men think she'll sleep with them if they buy her a drink. Once she gets the drink she gets up and moves to another table.
