In Chapter 1 of his letter to the Romans, he writes this.....

"They had exchanged God’s truth for a lie, reverencing and worshipping the creature in preference to the Creator (blessed is he for ever, Amen); and, in return, God abandoned them to passions which brought dishonour to themselves. Their women exchanged natural for unnatural intercourse; and the men, on their side, giving up natural intercourse with women, were burnt up with desire for each other; men practising vileness with their fellow men. I kind of feel sorry for them. How many people failed these people on their earthly journey? How does one arrive at a point where they are so filled with hatred for God that they would taunt Him like this? How can they possibly comprehend the horror that awaits them if they should die in this state?

In 1918 the Mother of God told three visionaries at Fatima Portugal,"Pray for sinners.Many souls go to hell because there is no one to pray for them". At one point in a vision Lucia dos Santos (1907-2005) said Our Blessed Mother parted her hands and the ground opened up to reveal hell. So horrible was the vision Lucia noted had the Blessed Mother not ended the vision of the damned in hell they would have died of fear. So horrible was the vision.

In visions to other Saints, Jesus assured visionaries that as long as they remained without grave sin, they had nothing to fear. Ultimately, whether we spend eternity in unimaginable joy in heaven or live in complete darkness and terror in hell for eternity, it's our choice.

We should pay for the conversion of sinners. Especially for these angry, raging, cursing souls.

ETA: I think you are glossing over Hebrews chapter 1 where Christ is called an angel but also superior to all the (other) angels. Christ is the highest of the archangels and ranks above all the other angels and one notch below God (according to Hebrews and the Pauline epistles).

ETA2: the foundational scriptures of Pauline Christianity, namely what scholars call “1 Enoch” and another “The Ascension of Isaiah” also portray the “Son of Man”/Christ as the “beloved” great archangel. Even the writers of the 4 canonical gospels quote and reference these texts including quoting Jesus referring to them, so we know the Christians of that time considered those (presently non-canonical books, except for the Ethiopian Orthodox Church who was outside of the purview of the Romans) as sacred scripture.
