I hate going in there. But they do have good outdoor gear.
I always laugh at the NO RACISM signs since they are in the whitest of white areas in a predominately black city.

I can't wish enough bad things for the commies at REI

I used to get pretty good stuff at the REI garage sales.
I love REI for the store and products... If ever there was a market for an REI store, Portland would be one of those places. You know it must be REALLY bad there for REI to close up that location.

And then Dick's bought Moosejaw too.
I like going to Dick's to try on shoes and then order them from someone else online. Bought my last pair of Foot Joys directly from Foot Joy for cheaper than what Dick's sells them for. Also, Foot Joy traditions are awesome.

I try not to do that to retailers I like but obviously with Dicks, screw 'em
We need to get Scheels in the Southeast, which would kill off Dicks and give us a far better retailer

One who is smart enough to understand that the kind of Politics practiced by you and your KKKomrades must fail spectacularly to stand as an example.
These sort of public, inarguable failures are needed to right the ship.

If you and your team were trying earnestly to name and fix the problems instead of blaming the problem on entities and ideas that have nothing to do with them, there would be more sympathy.
Nobody wants to see American cities in decline. But there is a belief that if only the natural consequences of your worldview are perpetuated, you'll be forced to change said worldview to something that doesn't breed violence and dysfunction.
But whether that's a sound assumption is pretty questionable.

You seen 4Chubbies body of work?
If so, is there any part of you that assumes she even has a pinky-toe dipped in the real world?
We will NEVER convince these sick, child-abusing Leftist that their views are evil, but we must convince that third of people in the country who simply aren't paying attention to the scum on the Left that they face a very real evil.

WTF?
Damn, looks like the only way to save Civilization is to bring back bullying and mockery.

The weird thing is that the Pearl is the protected area where crime and homelessness isn’t particularly tolerated (kind of like the Warehouse District in NOLA).
It’s one thing for Nike to leave SE Portland (they were on MLK) or retailers like Tory Burch to leave Old Town Portland (homeless central), but the Pearl is still prime real estate and the average condo price in that neighbourhood is well over $400k.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but what is a night strike?
It’s like feeding, ministering to homeless people.
Very naive imo these people are demons from abuse, drugs, living rough. Their only hope would be old school institutionalization.

If only there were some kind of warning that this could happen…
Sad!!
Last time I was there I made a comment about climbing but having no need for a Sherpa.
The clerk gave a blank stare & had no idea what a Sherpa was.
In a REI store.
Bunch of retail level posers.

Would this create an "outdoor retail" desert?

This is not a defense of REI post, but I think the Seattle store is the flagship store. I've been to that one and it's pretty cool. It has a hiking trail and bike trail.
This may just be a regular store.
I was big in to REI in the early 2000's when I climbed. Moosejaw too. It's a shame they all went political. I didn't even think about that crap when I was young. Now it's in every kids face, every day. They don't get a chance to just live without someone making them feel guilty about everything. It sucks.

Getting off track here, but you're 100% right and it's coming more and more to the forefront that there are real, meaningful consequences of it (negative ones). The amount of catastophization we're pumping into young people is coming out in higher numbers of mental health disorders, suicide, etc.
In my view, and at risk of using the same fear tactics they're using - knowingly doing this is nothing short of a crime against humanity.
