Ike had one of the most efficient policies about the southern border. In just two years illegal immigration went from 1.2 million per years to just 87K.

Golly!...was there anything different about those times?

Aside from common sense, not really.

A Republican back then actually followed the fiscal conservatism they preached, now they spend like Democrats but just on different things.

Well, since their women serve I would agree but the number is probably higher.

I have heard this on many occasions and no one in the media challenges it, and I heard it again from some "expert" on china this morning on Maria.

Please explain what you're using for a comparison of who is larger? Given China has at least 700 million more people than in the US, I can see a military with more personnel (larger). In terms of budgetary spending they likely will never match our expenditures. If they do, look out!

The issue isn't the size it's what they're investing their resources in. They are extremely ahead of the curve on high tech military weaponry. They don't have a massive Naval fleet to maintain and they aren't concerned because they will be developing weaponry that neutralizes our ships as a threat.

How about a basic respect for the law, or a sense of the sovereignty of another country? How about one of the political party's coaching illegal criminal aliens how to avoid deportation? How about mayors, etc declaring that they will not cooperate with Federal law enforcement? How about teaching students at all levels that America is and has always been a racist country?
There are many many other examples of what is different today.
Don't you agree? If not, what do you disagree with?

Their fleet is bigger than ours and their shipbuilding outpaces ours 3-1. 5 years ago they didn't have any aircraft carriers. Now they have two operational and at least one more(a supercarrier like ours) under construction.

I have a hard time believing there ships are a threat to our Navy. Which was my point. I'm aware of their carriers but they are no match for the Nimitz class right? Does the pace of building really matter?

We can not prevent China from taking Taiwan over if they decide to so.

If you take off your political glasses and want a real answer, here is a simple view.

Starting with the 80's we stopped being the good guys and being independent

#1 Neither side cares about the long term over their own interests
#2 Neither side will get off the corporate teat when it comes to money
#3 Neither side wishes to restore basic rights like privacy or independence
#4 Neither side wishes to reduce government or government control

Starting around 1980 we minted MBA's over engineers or english majors
Starting around 1980 we allowed the "Greed is Good" to replace community
Starting around 1980 (1977 and Star Wars) we allowed media to dumb us, not smarten us
Starting around 1980 we allowed "We the People" to become "All bout the Benjamins"

We have two paths and if unresolved we will have but 1 in less than a generation. We are Rome before their fall when the Emperor and Senate turned the Republic into a monarchy of money and power shifted from the people to very few. Sure Rome fell to the barbarians but the Rome of previous generations never allowed the country to fall from within before falling in battles.

History only changes when good men and women fight to make it about "us" instead of "us" versus "them".

If the F35 fails to live up to its hype we could be screwed there is a reason the Navy is keeping the super hornet

Doesn't mean anything. The technology disparity gap is large. The Russians had an army that filled half a continent. The Chinese have internal problems that will keep them preoccupied for decades.

The Navy didn't want the F35C. The Navy has more pressing needs. A dedicated fleet air defense fighter platform for one.

Stealth only works against little booty countries that don't have the latest tech. China can spot stealthy aircraft, just like russia can.

We haven't had that in a long time now.
We couldn't even put a carrier in the soth china sea if we were at war with china. We have no way to maintain air superiority.
