Well I’m of the school of thought that aircraft carriers are obsolete and we just don’t know it yet. They’re more of a symbol of national might than anything else. They’re so expensive and huge that losing one in battle is almost inconceivable yet they are a very inviting target. A target that is becoming increasingly vulnerable to high speed cruise and ballistic missiles.

If having carriers is an absolute must then we should have smaller, cheaper ones and more of them. And their mission should be focused on anti-surface/anti-submarine/sea-control rather than striking targets inland. We already have long range bombers and cruise missiles that are more than capable of taking that role from carrier based aviation.

It won’t matter if we are bankrupt.

Their army is irrelevant imo. No one is fighting a land war with China. Their Navy and Air/Missile forces are what we need to be concerned about.

They’ve also laid underwater listening devices to track our ships and subs. How effective it is I have no idea but it’s there.

Which is cheaper, the ship or the missile?

For those old enough to remember the Exocet and the Sheffield might be a clue.

Probably not as nice as ours, but they will have way more than we do.
