It's baffling how some of you are so rooted in seeking validation from others that you can't see that not everyone needs that.

You should be studied.

"omitting the money". absolutely on target. Employees are there to spend money. If there salary is 100k/yr, they will cause the expense of 2-3 million. poorly managed employees do not just sit, they get involved

Lol, I’m laughing at you pedophile. You couldn’t make mad unless I saw you messing with minors. You know, what you love to do…

ETA: try to stop responding, you can’t

Right, because we couldn't possibly privatize those services. Everyone knows government is more efficient! LoL

There are certain areas of society that "muh free market" won't touch and thus government has stepped into that space.

I agree that govt partially exists to step in when market failures occur. However, it’s important to note that, outside of national defense, only a small portion of federal spending goes towards market failures.

The vast majority of federal spending goes towards entitlements and subsidies, not govt enterprises.

For example, farm subsidies can’t possibly be justified using your own logic

In case you missed it, the previous administration was adding to the job numbers with government employees. Many were DEI hires. Once again, just spending our Tax Dollars!

I had an internship with the state when I was in college. Being in the private sector now for 25 years, the waste and laziness there still haunts me a little.

I'm concerned about this also. I previously (like, 2 years ago) predicted that no way would Trump significantly reduce the size of government for that very reason. (Well, that and the fact that he didn't his first term.)

Because unfortunately, like it or not, the federal government has become a jobs program. All of these people losing their jobs is enough to damage the economy.

That said, it's not just unnecessary federal workers. There's obviously a giant grift going on. I don't know how much money they can recover, but even if it's not a significant percentage of the budget it still needs to stop.

Social security is the thing that's really kicking us in the nuts (and Medicare

Absolutely. But it's not just Boomers who ignore that fact. You think you got some downvotes now? Start a SS-has-to-be-cut-for-the-US-to-survive dedicated thread and see how many you get.

The esteemed denizens of this online community are very enthusiastic about cutting government, as long as they don't stand to lose anything from the cut. Talk about the one thing that is eventually going to have to be cut in order to remain solvent around here and you might as well be pissing into a fan.

quote:

The other narrative about the tax cuts, the "that's okay because the tax cuts will create all kinds of economic growth and everything will be fine" also seems screwy.

History says otherwise, although it also says that the tax revenue increases that usually (not always) follow tax cuts are more modest than most here would admit.

It's basically a stimulus program for rich people

I don't know where you're getting that. No tax on tips? No tax on overtime? Those are rich people? No tax on SS? Some of those people are rich, but not the vast majority.
