Russia occupied and annexed Crimea in 2014
And Russia held the Olympics that winter and 4 years later the world cup.
People and news stations from around the world went to russia and russia was brought to the homes of millions if not a billion people.
What am I missing?

Well-documented and widespread corruption in both the Olypic and World Cup committees?

I used to think that, but some of the of these posters in this thread sure sound like they're pro-Russia.

The same committee that chose the US for the World Cup coming up?
That still doesn't explain the billions of $ people and companies spent in Russia, you know, this terrible country that was occupying another country.

How do we benefit from NATO and how much does the benefit cost us?
Prepositioning and facilities at the very least. It doesn’t cost us anything more than we would spend otherwise, because again, NATO spending is each nations spending on its own defense. We pay Germany for Ramstein, for example, and would do so regardless of NATO.

Again, the world was pro russia in 2018.
I was never pro russia.
So let me ask you this, why are you pro Ukraine all of a sudden? Up until 2022 our media labeled them the most corrupt country in the world full of neo nazis.
As of 2025 I am still not pro Russia or pro Ukraine.
Can you say the same?

Ok explain to me why so many people back Zelensky? Is he better than Putin and if so how?
Zelensky, fascist, imprisons opponents, against free speech, cancels elections, bombs his citizens, breaks treaties, unbelievably corrupt.
Putin, Communistic/Democrat, imprisons opponents, against free speech, controls elections, sacrifices his citizens, normally corrupt.

I mean of course, they're both easily and exclusively corrupted by money. Why do you think wealthy, but uncomfortably hot and culturally combatitve Qatar of all places was selected for the World Cup in 2022?
It certainly wasn't to show off the historically hospitable citizens and government of Qatar.
The U.S. probably paid those committees under the table too.

I added enough. It's pretty settled that you are being ignorant as suggested.
This board is not pro Russia. You are either full of shite, ignorant, or a troll. You have been told over and over and over yet you still demand it to be true.

I'm neither, but I'm far more anti-Russia than I am anti-Ukraine.
Ukraine has problems, but is comparatively small and poses no threat to the United States, and also isn't trying to invade other countries.
Russia, on the other hand...

Lol no. If anything, the world just gave the Olympics flak for selecting Russia as a site, despite Russia constantly getting in trouble for cheating and doping from their athletic programs.
A corrupt organization choosing to host their events somewhere doesn't make the world pro-Russia.

I am not pro-Russia or Putin. I do not favor throwing billions of dollars at Ukraine. This country has way too much debt for that.

Ok, big picture here.
Russia, despite the fall of the USSR, is considered a major power. Probably still considered #2 in overall military.
Since the fall of the USSR, Russia has moved significantly to the Right of where they had been.
Europe, especially Western Europe, has been moving significantly Left. There are lots of Socialist policies in place, and an increasing loss of individual liberties.
You might still be freer in France, Germany or Britain than in Russia (I'd assume, really not sure at this point), but the trends have been opposite. Things are less free today in England than they had been, and they're more free in Russia than they had been.
Given those trends, it makes Russia an interesting prospective partner. We haven't been tied directly to them, so we're not directly influencing them. If we were, maybe they'd swing even more closely to our preference.
We HAVE been tied to Western Europe, but it seems that they are seriously drifting away from us in alignment.
Regarding Ukraine etc, it's a complicated matter. WE have been in wars during that period, with countries less important to the US than Ukraine has historically been to Russia. And we've hit countries in our hemisphere (sort of similar to what's happening with Russia and Ukraine) when they're becoming a problem towards us. Panama a few decades ago, other Central American countries to a lesser extent, and we're eyeballing Mexico pretty hostilely right now (cartel bullshite).

Nobody likes either of them. We just want the killing to stop.
Why is that so hard to understand? Sometimes there just aren’t any good guys. It’s not a sporting event.

It’s been said over and over. Putin isn’t taking shite from the globalists and globohomo. Putin may not be the best guy, but the people we’re up against are much worse.
