re: Why is there so much emphasis on wearing masks?

Sometime back I posted this WSJ article on how the virus spreads and thought it worth posting again. Surface contact is not the big concern, it seems that it is spread more when people are in close contact in a closed in space and talking or singing for a period of time (around 15 minutes or more).
There are various ways to reduce the risk from catching or spreading the virus that don't include wearing a mask. The idea with the masks is that it helps reduce the risk by reducing the amount of water droplets reaching another person when people are close, in a closed in space and talking over a relatively long period of time.

The masks are meant to reduce the amount of spit particles coming out of your mouth when you’re talking, thus reducing the cloud of spit vapor floating in indoor spaces. Outside that vapor just gets blown away, so it’s really only important to wear a mask inside.

Ok. I’ll play... if I’m wearing jeans and fart it’s still gonna stink. The jeans didn’t prevent anything.

So, masks will be required for the rest of everyone's life.
If not, why are you spitting more now?

We have a number of MDs who post here. They uniformly disagree with your analysis.

Masks today, armbands tomorrow, re-education camps next week. Keep moving the goalposts until your enemy is unequivocally eliminated.

I’m not a mask guy, as I don’t think the virus is prevalent enough to warrant them, however, masks do keep your breath droplets from going very far. You can tell when you wear one and exhale that they inhibit your breath from traveling as far as it would without a mask. It’s why those things get so damn hot. I don’t dispute the idea that masks can probably help keep you from spreading illnesses, but like I said, this is an illness affecting 1 - 2% of the population, and I hate a fricking nanny state. I also am just fricking sick of talking about them.

and a LOT of Brownshirts clamoring for its enforcement. Humans face diseases, Always have, always will. This is folly at the end of a Nazi officers riding crop. The Brownshirts are amazingly free of wrinkles. jhawohl?
see George Carlin about getting life encompassing silly about immunity and disease and never forget that this particular disease was facilitated throughout the world by thug communist chinese

If u want to wear a mask then wear the fricking mask... if you don’t want to wear a mask then don’t wear the fricking mask
It’s not fricking rocket science
I don’t wear a mask but I actually like seeing people wear a mask

I will say that I flew to Moab, Utah for July 4th and felt better that everyone was wearing a mask on the flights. Maybe it was false sense of security but I felt more inclined to take the trip knowing masks were required on the flights.

I think this virus has the experts befuddled. It's a new virus and is breaking the mold from what they have observed from other coronaviruses. They have seen a much lower rate of transmission in Asia where masks are more commonly worn and decided to push it here. They are throwing stuff up against the wall hoping something sticks.

Liberals know they make conservatives feel uncomfortable. Therefore they want to beat conservatives over the head with shame, guilt & “science”

As an opponent of FORCED UNIVERSAL MASKING and its totalitarian precepts, I find "increasingly dangerous TO THE WEARER" "feature" very humorous.

What I find amusing is employees at various businesses wearing gloves that they never change. They may be protecting themselves, but everything they touch gets a transfer from everything they have touched previously.
BTW - here's a pretty good article about how effective masks aren't:
Masks Ain't So Great

Wearing a mask is inconvenient. So is stopping to open the door for another human being. But both are the courteous thing to do.

A recent meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials also showed that surgical masks are as effective as N95 masks in reducing transmission of influenza-like diseases.6 If the result from a case–control study during the SARS-CoV-1 outbreak in Hong Kong is any indication, frequent masks use (mainly surgical) in public places can be protective by 64%.7

I don’t know why I took the time to do this because it’s not going to change your feeble mind

I really don’t understand what masks are supposed to accomplish. They won’t prevent you from getting sick. They say it prevents you from spreading germs. However, if I’m sick I’m home in bed. If I’m asymptomatic I’m not coughing during the operation.
So, what do masks in surgery really accomplish?

Fauci, the CDC, the WHO and other "scientists" LIED to you about masks initially.
They LIED when they claimed mask-wearing makes no difference.
They LIED, and knew they were lying.
They LIED under the dumb presupposition that if they didn't, the public would hoard masks, and medical folks would lack adequate PPE.
But as opined in past discussions about the CDC and physicians, once credibility is shed, it is nearly impossible to regain.

We’re not spitting more now, it’s just now there is a risk for Covid to be spread within this vapor cloud. Sorry I forget sometimes how much I have to dumb it down for y’all to understand.
