The Dems are pushing them because they have active and vocal followings and that does far more to create the perception of momentum than does your average Democrat who feels their party has left them. As they give these groups (DSA won't be the only one) more and more of a seat at the table, it pushes out moderates and conservative Democrats. As it pushes more out, the DNC feels pressured to make noticeable gains where ever the can and a loud, rabid group is what they think they need.

Mamdani is as much a litmus test as was Platner and as is Omar. The test is to see how much socialism can be pushed onto the voters before they push back. Once that level is reached, they'll backtrack slightly but set wherever that is as the new norm and then push again in a few years. Rinse and repeat until they are either beaten back down to irrelevance or they have the numbers to begin doing the crap they are talking about.

I could disagree. A socialist party bringing in millions in donations, to sponsor political placements like AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Talib (SP don't care) Hakin Jeffries and their ilk... To me that's a threat, not irrelevant.

The problem is that they shouldn't be winning anywhere.

Beyond that though, the answer is "yes". A good gauge is the membership of The Squad. Prior to 2018 there were socialist-leaning Democrats but they were few and considered outsiders. AOC, Tlaib, Pressley and Omar won, met around Freshman Orientation and pretty much created their own unofficial pro-socialism caucus.

While their membership has fluctuated slightly since then, the key factor is that it's grown. They now have members from New York, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Illinois.
