I graduated from Louisiana Tech in 2003 and of the group of guys that I hung around with the majority graduated in some engineering degree. Our group consisted of 7 and not one of us stayed in Louisiana and we were all born and raised in Louisiana. 5 went to Texas, one to Arkansas, and one to Mississippi. This would have or could have been 7 tax paying productive members of society and their families staying in La if there was more opportunity in Louisiana. The lack of business growth in La is a combination of corrupt governance, high state taxes, and honestly a lazy and uneducated populous that would translate into lazy uneducated work force.

If Louisianans made education as big a priority as religion then the state would be just fine.
Here in SWLA it seems as though folks have just given up on trying to improve their lives.
Everyday I see folks (including college educated) who can’t speak properly. I seen it with my own ears.
It’s a sad little state that is going nowhere. I feel sorry for the young’ uns who are ill equipped to compete in todays world.

Not true. It's not IQ of the population.
It's the system, and folks not knowing any better.
Folks who were Louisiana educated, leave the state and are successful.
I was fortunate. I joined the Navy in 62. Found out there is a better life outside the state.

I'm also team Nelson. Unfortunate that people haven't really learned much about him yet, but he's certainly out there doing radio interviews and impressing hosts. I imagine the LABI convention will be his coming out party to a large degree. It really is a breath of fresh air to hear from a politician that sounds prepared to discuss any topic in great detail and offer possible solutions. It feels like he's the only one that understands the job description for which he's applying.

A lot of Louisianans have this same unreasonable pride. I’m guilty myself. If someone could ever harness that pride, this state could really be something.
