Well, they probably didn't intend for the government to be as big and far reaching as the one we find ourselves with today either...

And to think... some people running for president think it should be much bigger and more far reaching. I would imagine that the OP feels the same way.

Maybe Trump should move the DOJ and FBI to Dallas

Large portion of the FBI are moving to Huntsville. The bomb school is already there...

And I agree decentralized departments are a good thing.

Some people voting for President want the government to control every single aspect of their life... For some reason they need government... pitiful...

That scene was actually filmed at the Cobb Energy Ctr.

I know the idiocy of Johnson Space Center being in Houston is due to politics and in Huntsville having a rocket lab.

Huntsville has a low cost of living and von Brahan liked the weather, and the Army already had a large base here. Huntsville was a very practical choice.

Makes no sense. What pork barrel nonsense put something that vital away from DC our nation's capital. I know the idiocy of Johnson Space Center being in Houston is due to politics and in Huntsville having a rocket lab.

Why does it need to be in Washington DC?

If anything, I think more federal operations should be moved to the heartland and away from the high costs of living and thought bubble in DC.

My proposal:

FBI to St. Louis
National Weather Service to Dallas
Dept of Transportation to Detroit
US Patent and Trademark Office to Baton Rouge
EPA to Houston
Dept of Education to Memphis
HUD to Cincy
Department of Labor to Pittsburgh
Maritime Administration to New Orleans
USDA to Kansas City
Consumer Financial Protection to Minneapolis
National Institute of Standards and Tech to Cleveland
Center for Medicare and Medicaid to Jackson (MS)
USGS to Sacramento (CA) or Portland (OR)
SEC to Chicago
DHS (less FEMA) to Denver
National Science Foundation to Phoenix
VA to East St Louis/Belleville (IL)
Dept of Energy to Louisville
Heath and Human Services (less medicare/medicaid) to Indianapolis
FDA to Milwaukee
NOAA to Tampa/St. Pete
US Agency for Global Media to Philly
Dept of Commerce to Birmingham
FEMA to Salt Lake City

Anyone that does not want to move can quit. Win-Win.

It actually does. Atlanta is one of the main travel hubs in the nation. It is one of the largest and busiest international gateways in the world. So anyone needing to get an immediate trip somewhere from the CDC is as likely or more likely to find one in Atlanta with few to no layovers.

Also, the CDC got its start in the WWII era south. Most of the training bases were in the south and was the leaving point and return point of soldiers overseas. The center was located in the south to screen for any returning diseases.

Then since it was already set up there, instead of packing it up and moving everything and everyone that was settled in after the war, they left it there.

Dept of Education to Memphis

Hahahaha. Ohhhhhhh. Nooooooooo. NOTHING with their hands in federal policy should be in Memphis, TN. And the department of education would be at the top of the hell no list. You risk the blatant and wide open corruption of the city of Memphis and Shelby County finding its way in the Dept of Education if you did that.

The Department of Homeland Security would make more sense. There would be a ton of experience to be gained in Memphis.

What will be the 2nd largest FBI facility is currently being built in Huntsville. It would be capable of serving as the new Headquarters, if needed. Personally, I think it’s a very good idea to decentralize.

Department of Education should be in the nearest major metro to the upper Mississippi Delta region, where there are serious education issues. They should live in close proximity to people impacted by their policies.

And Memphis is far less corrupt than DC.

The Mississippi Delta has the same education issues that the city of Memphis has... and it’s not because of money. It’s because of outright idiocy of leadership and corruption.

And when the jobs open up at the new department of education in Memphis... who is going to be applying? Yep. The people in the leadership positions of these schools. So in essence, you take what is in these schools.... and you spread it nationwide.

Noooooo thanks.

At least one military location in the D.C. area works with the same types of things.

IDK, but Emory Univ's medical school is happy about it.
It's a great recruiting tool.
