So you think Rs have more leverage at this point?
Um, yeah. Democrats caved. Trump knows their price that they won't hold up to a prolonged shut down for DACA. He'll now use that to extract a pound of flesh.

The argument isn't that they have the upper hand, simply their position has improved, which is accurate.
It is literally quite the opposite. They lost this round and now don't have CHIP on the line so what is their leverage, specifically?

Democrats realized they fricked up, caved in and got nothing that wasn't already going to be done.
It's all about midterms, and it was a horrible time to make a stand on a tiny hill

It's the erosion of the Rs position, and CHIP was an asset in the argument and the fight to control the narrative.
You think Dems are more likely or less likely to approve wall spending now that no kids are in the way?
You think the dems base is more likely or less likely to be upset with them if they shut it down again now that CHIP is out of the way?

The reality is in three weeks this will again be the choice:
Plus the memo.

This is BS. DACA was always going to get done by mid Feb when it expires. There was already a committee working on it. This does not change that. So they gained nothing there except a " commitment".
CHIP is off the table. So the GOP has one less arrow in the quiver. That's all that's changed.

The "narrative" was Democrats chose illegals over citizens. That isn't going to change if another shut down happens. Now, Repubs know Democrats won't hold up a shutdown long term over DACA.

Seeing as how Schumer already offered it and has now backed down, yeah they are

WGAF about the Dem base? They're a bunch of looney tunes that would choose illegals over citizens. That doesn't play well with independent voters and Schumer finally got his caucus on board with this reality.

God I hate this political environment where everything boils down to which side wins, which side loses, which side caused this, or caused that. It's so petty and middle school level.
I once agreed with this. But, now that the government has the power to force you to buy (Obamacare) and sell (Eminent Domain) it’s no longer intramural contests but a life and death bloodsport.

I don't think was played well at all by the Democrats, and we look petty and foolish right now.

This is why this board is such a circle jerk. 24 hours ago it was.....
.."Shumer is such an idiot for shutting it down", "what a bad decision that will doom democrats"
*they make a deal*
"he caved! he caved! MAGA!" "Now we REALLY got them where we want them!"
It's endless spin, no matter what happens you've convinced yourself its good for Rs and bad for Ds, literally no matter what. This is why this board is 80% useless hot air.

Are you melting, it sounds like a classic liberal melt.

Democrats should come to the table on fixing immigration and border security. Meet the WH half way at least, and you'll likely get a permanent DACA fix. You've then got something for your base, we have something for our base, and we'll see what happens in the midterms.
The media will ensure that the government shutdown isn't shoved in your face. We'll shove it in your face in campaign lit and ads, but whatever.

These statements are not incongruous FWIW

Anything that isn't a reach around for DJT is considered a melt around here.......
...so yeah, I guess so. Which is fine.

Lol, in your rush to post why didn't you ad FT and Rex's wonderful progressive threads yowling about how badly Trump was going to get fricked?
Posted on 1/22/18 at 3:19 pm to Jbird
....because its not true??? I don't know what you're looking for, nor do I know actually what you're talking about. I don't read every thread.
Posted on 1/22/18 at 3:20 pm to mwade91383
Well in that case, too bad you missed two sweet progressive melt threads that didn't age very well.

I think Trump sucks but the Dems misjudged this one badly.
