He falsely claimed he did not have authority to send delegates back to the State legislatures (the ones that had discrepancies in their federal election), so they could re-evaluate the delegates sent.
This would have allowed state legislatures to determine if they agreed with the delegates sent or if the delegates sent were the wrong ones based off of evidence that showed voting irregularities.

the elections are run by the states. no one in the fed, including the VP, has ANY authority over them, no one can approve or reject what they do. the idea that a sitting VP can reject the votes from states he lost is so fricking insane its hard to even fathom.
he cant "send delegates back" to the states, THE STATES ARE THE ONES WHO JUST SENT THE DELEGATES TO HIM. the state legislatures, all 50 of them, democrat AND republican, ALREADY certified their elections, they ALREADY looked at any notable discrepancies and found nothing.
it was already over, the door was closed, you dont get do-overs until you get the answer you want.
