Is there some kind of backroom deal going on?

Illegal immigration wouldn't be a problem if Mexico was a well regulated government that provided for its citizens. Why is the US subsidizing Mexico.

I think we should isolate from Mexico for 50 years for both trade and immigration. I'm saying this because that country is LONG OVERDUE for a revolution against the Spaniard descended upper class.

The US doesn't even need to send troops. We can finance revolutionaries JUST LIKE WE DO IN THE MIDDLE EAST and install a puppet government that will follow our rules regarding regulation.

I'm not a fan of imperialism. But at this point I'm tired of dealing with the immigration complaints and EXCUSES from both political parties.

The only reason we wont is probably because the Mexicans don't have a natural resource DC finds beneficial enough to fight for.

How was my post racist. I'm only advocating for their revolution because obviously their government is too corrupt to be fixed democratically.

You think we have a problem now with illegal immigration, imagine the "refugee" crisis that would happen if there was a civil war in Mexico.

Just build the wall and let them stew in their own shithole.

If the US takes care of its own shite, then Mexico won't be an issue. The problem isn't Mexico, the problem is US leadership that's been terrible at protecting our own interests.

Then let the other Western nations take care of it. The US isn't obligated to take refugees. As long as Trump is on office there won't be any real backlash.

Likely because American politicians, like those in Mexico, are taking money from the drug cartels.

I have always assumed the Bushes were neck-deep in the drug trade.

trump won't be in office forever

edit: if you really want to cripple mexico just end the war on drugs here in america. it would basically put a lot of the cartel out of business overnight.

I agree. A common rebuttal is that a legal system of drug commerce will still be more expensive that street drugs. This may happen, but only of states tax the product too high. Also, many people will opt for the convenience of a store vs a dealer who could potentially get them arrested.

Then there is the taboo effect. People are enticed to bad things because it's cool. Once legalized and accessible, they will move on to do something else.

On an offhand note, do you work in the RF industry? I ask because of your username.

Actually Trump and the new president there are working together to improve their domestic situation and in return Mexico is going to work with the Trump admin to help fix the border security problems. It's in both parties interest.

I agree with your general thought, if not the gritty details. The US should demand Mexico do better, which would take away the reason its citizens flee the country.

This is really another great effect from a wall that could occur. Mexican citizens are finally forced to face their shite hole country with terrible corrupt leaders head on.

Not gonna happen. Best we can do is prop up Mexico as much as possible by giving them tons of money and free trade.

Otherwise we'd be living next door to a bigger shithole.

Mexico's ruling class is educated at Ivy League universities. There aren't backroom deals in any greater sense than normal backroom deals. Disrupting the status quo impacts powerful people over a wide gradient of power.
