If only more people took this approach, our constitution wouldn't be such a p.o.s.

Then all the people who voted to approve those constitutional amendments last year will piss and moan and blame whatever Democrat gets elected for using the exact powers they gave him or her.

I honestly don't see a current Louisiana Democrat with decent name recognition on the bench who can win a statewide election.

Landry's good for re-election unless there's someone with an "R" beside their name who can raise the money and support to challenge him, and I'm not sure that exists either.

Honestly, I don't think it will take much. Landry has alienated a lot of people who voted for him. I could see Graves running as a moderate Republican or even jumping parties to run.

If graves runs as a D, he won’t win. People will bring up the party switch and he will be crushed for it.

You realize that it’s possible to try and fix more than 1 issue at a time right? And as OweO is saying, the levee board currently isn’t a problem, the actions Landry is looking to take will cause problems as he’s trying to make it go back to pre-Katrina status quo.

you realize I'm agreeing with you, right? But NOLA hasn't ever come close to addressing the more virulent disease of politocal corruption on the local level. You can try and fix all the issues at once all you like, but so far you haven't fixed the biggest one of all...your own local politicians. Let alone state appointed ones.

He would need about every single business lobbying group (LABI, LMOGA, etc.) behind him with their money and resources, because the State GOP apparatus will give Landry all their resources, and you'll have the hard "MAGA" base in the state dedicated to Landry.

I don't think Graves wins doing that, plus it would show a pretty bad bruise on his character to be able to simply throw a "D" next to his name, especially when you consider what the National Democrat Party stands for these days. Anti-oil & gas, men in women's sports, forced COVID vaccinations...all that would be attached to Graves.

Comes down to how much money he could raise and he would need to raise at least $10 million.

Is it really that surprising though? Typical coonass. Too stupid to know that they don't know shite while assuming they know everything.

LA Times 2005 story

quote:

Although the corps and federal officials kept a tight leash on
funding, the Orleans board spent money lavishly, diverting resources
to high-stakes investments such as casinos and marinas. The levee
board’s unusual authority to hire its own consultants allowed its
officials to select firms that regularly gave campaign contributions
to politicians with influence over levee board business.

R’s outside of the NOLA levee system dont really mind that… remember Jefferson and St Bernard Parishes went for JBE

D’s cant win in Louisiana with just NOLA… they can win with NOLA, Jefferson, and St Bernard

Why is it so difficult to get competent leadership in LA?

Because the electorate doesn't believe in education, thus leaving them vulnerable to corruption.

Because yall refuse to hire anyone with heart. You always find the biggest scumbags to run and its the usual suspects every fricking time. No flavor. Everyone on both sides is a thief. Ones just better than steal than the other and the other is the governments favorite color.

There are people out there, yall dont look.

Because most honest, reasonable people don’t have the stomach to do what it takes to win statewide elections here. So we end up having to pick between two loud-mouthed, crooked egomaniacs that played the game well enough to make it to a statewide runoff.

Because someone needs to camp out at Joe's Donuts and change the bulbs in the Mardi Gras fountains.

I'm actually surprised @ the downvotes on prev post.

I think the Causeway Commission is ridiculous and is a perfect examples of money- wasting "studies"
And toll-takers in 2025?

How can anyone debate that?
